(129,483 posts)I have sisters in both Montco and Delco. The Montco sister has school districts all around her that have been closing but not hers yet. My Delco sis has been monitoring the situation - nothing near her closed yet but some of the siblings of kids in the same class as her son, go to Upper Merion schools in Montco (and that district plus Lower Merion) closed.

(129,483 posts)City had its presser. Not much info on the case except the person is "an adult" who has been in contact with others who they are tracking down. They did recommend people not attend public events "of 5000 or more" and recommended that people watch the St. Patty's Day parade on TV (that is still on for this weekend - especially since it is the 250th annual one).

Right now Montco has the "active" and "public" cases but it's only a matter of time before it runs rampant through the city.
The Flower Show squeaked through this (I was there this past Saturday) and am hoping nothing got spread at that. We went earlier in the morning when it was less crowded and the aisles were much wider and more opened up than in the past so the contact would be somewhat more minimized compared to the crowd crushes of the past.

Statement of the Philadelphia St. Patrick's Day Observance Association:
After heartfelt consideration and serious conversation with officials from the City of Philadelphia, the St. Patrick's Day Observance Association has decided to cancel the parade and all events related to the 2020 Philadelphia Saint Patrick's Day Parade. This decision was made with significant input from civic and parade participants. While this decision is disappointing, we acted with a general concern for the well-being of everyone. In days to come, we will continue with great enthusiasm to plan the 250th Saint Patrick's Day Parade on March 14, 2021 celebrating Saint Patrick, our Grand Marshal Michael J. Bradley, Jr., and the distinguished members of the Ring of Honor.

University of Pennsylvania shifts all classes online for rest of semester
The University of Pennsylvania becomes the second college in the region to shift to online instruction for the rest of the semester.
West Chester University announced a similar move on Tuesday.
Penn said it will extend spring break for one week and begin virtual classes on Monday, March 23. Virtual instruction, including final exams, will continue through the end of the semester.
The university is asking all students, who are currently on spring break and out of town, not to return to campus. Those on campus should leave by Sunday. Some clinical rotations will continue, the university said.
Many details are still being finalized, so we ask for your patience as we work through the myriad issues involved in this major temporary change, said an email from Penn President Amy Gutmann and Provost Wendell Pritchett.

Students are being asked to leave campus by 5 p.m. March 21. Those who need to remain on campus can request an extension, the school said. The university also is encouraging students who live off campus to return home.
We are focused on ensuring the health and safety of our community members, and on the successful completion of our students spring semester, President Richard M. Englert and Provost JoAnne A. Epps wrote to the campus.
