It looks like the US is playing with the infection numbers

When you go here:

The current infected in USA is 1268. Yesterday it was 1600+ and this morning 1800+.

On https://ncov2019.live the number looks correct albeit unchanged from this morning.

The new york times tracking every case site is fine. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/us/coronavirus-us-cases.html

(They are a bit behind, though, since Ohio is now at at least 13, not 5)

There has not been adequate testing to begin with. That's why they are so low and differ from place to place.
