I feel like the worst hasn't hit many areas yet and that's when things will really shut down. I guess they may be trying NOT to scare people even more.

an island away other schools are already closing. Nothing uniform here at all.

Edit: Just got word, more students in school. In-service is still on to brainstorm how to teach and feed our kids.

WA started at two weeks and is now at a month.

The CDC has a paper saying school closures are only effective with an 8-20 week closure.

Available modeling dataindicatethatearly,
shorttomediumclosuresdonotimpacttheepicurveofCOVID-19or available health care measures (e.g., hospitalizations). There may be some impact of much longer closures (8 weeks, 20 weeks) further into community spread, but that modelling also shows that other mitigation efforts (e.g., handwashing, home isolation) have more impact on both spread of disease and health care measures. In other countries, those places who closed school (e.g., Hong Kong) have not had more success in reducing spread than those that did not (e.g., Singapore).

I cannot imagine schools opening up before mid April or May at the earliest. There is also really no reason not to have school through the summer with occasional breaks.

Same with colleges. Many of them are saying we will give online 3 weeks and then re-evaluate. But no one is actually going back. Graduations will be cancelled. No AP tests this year.

once they got home, they received an e-mail telling them in-person classes were suspended for the rest of the semester - online only. Yet to be determined are any refunds - room/board, meal plan, parking fees, etc.

They'll be allowed back just to pick up belongings.

higher ed has more options than k-12 at this point. higher ed has online option. harder to expect a 6 year old to learn by online and adult would need to be there.
