The real problem they are talking about, up there in the Elysium, is: what do you do when you have too many obsolete human beings?
I mean, what's the profit model here? If you have too many rabbits, what's the solution since they just keep breeding?
Oh, and we'll have none of that utopian, ideological leisure society and do what you love, that's for certain. UBI my ass!

(4,602 posts)They will decrease in number but the autonomous rigs are only good for the long haul part of a trip.
Probably autonomous convoys will require a human sitter.

robotic cleaning and janitorial duties
robot fruit pickers
even most bookkeeping and clerical jobs

We also will need to aggressively retrain and reeducate those who are displaced to minimize the burden
I work on designing and implementing origination systems, so I am one of those building the tools that will do a lot of clerical / financial processing jobs.

(17,640 posts)Maybe the automated trucks won't cut you off when they are supposed to yield at intersections or weave into your lane as you pass them.
This is a sign of progress, people have always worried about job losses from progress. After all, how many blacksmith shops are in your city?
