In my opinion, we should use high school and college gymnasiums as spaces for beds and hospital tents. Local communities, along with the state's National Guard units, could put these beds and facilities together. Since schools are now closed, these facilities should be ready to use.
Sports teams use oxygen on their sidelines during games. They could use these for emergency purposes and begin producing as many breathing units as possible. This would be the responsibility of local governments.
This would be similar to the Civil Defense plans during the 1950's, when people were panicked by fear of nuclear attack.
These plans should be put in place as soon as possible, in my opinion.

(5,416 posts)we are obviously incapable of building hospitals as fast as the chinese can, and tents are last resort. the gyms (hell, use the superdome if necessary) should begin preparations as soon as possible.
i also think we should be breveting as many student nurses, retired nurses, everyone who ever thought of being a nurse for a quick ojt and into the breech.

The important thing is to not panic. America is strong. We can come together and win this battle.

i don't think any of this will come from the conspicuous consumer in chief, but in any serious crisis the most self sufficient, and the most cooperative, will have a better chance of survival.

Our ancestors learned to can goods during the summer months. A bushel of apples, a bushel of peaches, a bushel of green beans. Food supplies can now be frozen. Potatoes could be buried in very dry dirt and they could be preserved all winter.
Those that lived in the country raised chickens. They always had meat and eggs. One rooster with ten hens and you could have about 3 dozen chickens by next spring, with a couple dozen eggs per day.
Those that live in rural areas have a better lifestyle during severe times.
