Treasury plan calls for emergency checks starting April 6

UPDATE: A Treasury Department proposal sent to lawmakers calls for $250 billion in direct payments to Americans starting April 6, with another $250 billion round on May 18.

The proposal also includes $200 billion in industry aid. As part of that, the airline sector would see $50 billion in loans, with conditions on executive pay and service requirements.

The plan comes as the coronavirus threatens to cripple the U.S. economy and continues to spread across the country.

EARLIER: The Senate is expected to pass a multi-billion dollar emergency aid package on Wednesday to confront the economic impacts of the coronavirus, clearing the way for negotiations on a third, even larger stimulus package to address the pandemic.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell reiterated his support Wednesday for the House-passed package and vowed to address any “imperfections” in the Senate’s subsequent bill — which McConnell promised to craft at “warp speed.”

We really don't need it and $1,000 isn't going to cover much for people out of work. Even with unemployment. The max you can get in Virginia PER WEEK is $180 - I qualified that last year and I don't make very much.

Is that it would take to long to implement it.
Wouldn’t there have to be a screening for any means test? Or the recipient would have to apply?

I think an across the board would be much faster .

Maybe it could be counted next year as income on people make over $100,000 or something like that?

People will be needing help in a few weeks, not a few months.

You're right.

Just off the top of my head I'd the one way to get more to the powered is by zip code or income residents info.

But I’m sure a quite a few people that made good money last year, have already lost their jobs this year.

So far my husband and I don’t need it, but by May we might. His near future doesn’t look to good.
We can weather a few months, but not sure after that. So going only by tax records isn’t ideal, but it’s probably a start if they do decide to means test.

One way or another. If those with children get something, I'll be grateful. But for myself, I'll believe it if I see it. Which I doubt.
