Went for a check-up this morning (Triglycerides are a little high but not as high as they have been and BP is good and A1C is better thanks) but of course my Doc starts talking about my next visit which she is scheduling 4 months out instead of the usual 3 so the office can keep less people in there at a time. I'm all for that - the waiting room was nice and empty this morning and I got the comfy chair which is usually taken.
BUT then she starts telling me she thinks the Corona virus was manufactured in a lab and deliberately set free to attack us. Is that some crazy shit? I hate to lose her lol. She is wonderful in every other respect.

(5,857 posts)that she's getting her medical education from Fox news is pretty damn concerning. I could live with an R doctor, but that's bad -- especially since there have been two major journal articles in the last month disproving any idea of a man made disease.

(31,261 posts)But, I agree with you. If she is a good Doctor who is improving his health outcomes, he should not change. One thing that I DO NOT DO is get into chit-chat about politics or religion with my Doctor's Nurse, my Doctor, my Dental Hygienist or Dentist or anyone else that I have any type of business relationship with. I have no idea about the politics or religious orientation of those people because if I sense a conversation drifting to those area, I redirect the discussion promptly.

(12,132 posts)I didn't start it this time but last year I was at a dentist for the first time and it was a pretty nice place and the assistant led me back to the chair and there was a TV in the room and she turned it on for me and asked what I wanted to watch while I waited for the dentist. When it came on it was on Fox News and I blurted out "God! Anything but Fox News!" and then hoped I hadn't just offended the people who would soon be poking at my teeth and gums with sharp steel instruments.
It was uneventful after that but I haven't been back to him.
And yes, my diabetes is doing better than ever with her - I see her every 3 months and she adjusts my meds a little bit on ocasion and each time when I go back it's better than ever. I'm losing weight and lowering my A1C.

(16,847 posts)Seems like most people have at least one or two crazy ideas, especially at times like this, when stress levels are high. I wouldn't hold it against them as long as I was being treated well and competently.

And then a doctor "compartmentalizing" obvious bullshit right in her wheelhouse of expertise.
No, I would not keep any doctor who puked out something that is obvious bullshit that she should know--better than anyone--is bullshit. That is a doctor who can make dangerous decisions about your health, when push comes to shove.

If she is doing a good job with your diabetes, though, why change?

(12,132 posts)still not perfect but that's mostly my doing.
This was the first time I've ever had even a hint of wackiness from her and her staff is stellar - their needle sticks for blood draws are so painless I often don't realize I've been stuck until they tell me we're all done.
But like I said above, we will be moving this year so it probably isn't worth looking around here for a replacement. I'll wait until we get where we're going and look out there.

(5,164 posts)Because the fact that she believes that with no evidence, if she really does believe it, says something about her overall judgement. But now is not the time to change doctors. They are running scared. My ent sent out two emails of criteria for allowing patients to come there, the last one basically said if you have a fever / cough etc you cant. So essentially they arent treating anyone or a large number of patients and my dentists office has closed apparently with no notice to patients.

A Federal Ban on Making Lethal Viruses Is Lifted - Dec. 19, 2017
Federal officials on Tuesday ended a moratorium imposed three years ago on funding research that alters germs to make them more lethal.
Such work can now proceed, said Dr. Francis S. Collins, the head of the National Institutes of Health...
...Critics say these researchers risk creating a monster germ that could escape the lab and seed a pandemic...

And we have plenty of sociopaths in this country who would love to unleash a plague on the world, for a variety of reasons. He knew it was true and changed the subject.

(15,805 posts)This is not a desirable trait in any educated professional, especially one who is responsible for your life. She might be "wonderful" but you have to be suspicious that she may harbor other strange ideas if she openly admits to problems coping with facts and reality vs crackpot conspiracy theories.
Leave her service and find a new doctor who is firmly grounded in reality. On your way out, stop by the administration office and lodge a formal complaint against her lack of professionalism and her belief in unfounded conspiracy theories that might affect her ability to make sound decisions about your healthcare. She will only get worse over time and you don't want to be a recipient of some bizarre medical treatment she wants to inflict on you or other unsuspecting patients.
