Speaking to the nation last night, U.S. President Donald Trump said a ban on Europeans entering the United States is necessary because Europe hadnt banned flights from China early as the U.S. had done.
The European Union failed to take the same precautions and restrict travel from China and other hot spots as a result a large number of new clusters were seeded by travellers from Europe, he said.
TRUTH
But virtually every part of this statement is untrue.
Italy imposed a ban on flights from China on 31 January, immediately after a Chinese couple in Rome tested positive for the virus. The U.S. began to restrict flights from China four days later. But while Italy enacted a full ban, the U.S. policy was only a restriction, with wide exemptions.

(42,770 posts)against it at the time. Total bullshit.
But, I swear, don't start digging into the whole subject because it will make you REALLY get sick about how the whole thing was handled on so many levels. The virus was already here when the ban was announced and it needed to be coupled with so much more effort we weren't ready for. Plus because the ban was only on one country, when the virus was already reported in others, the effectiveness was diminished.

(42,770 posts)the timeline on this effectively. And his actions were always affected by the financial perspective before any human perspective. Hell, he admitted as much when he said yesterday? that he disbanded the pandemic team to save salaries. That's a business perspective, albeit a short-sighted one.

(42,770 posts)crews. Plus Americans coming in.
One thing I've thought about often is how we all automatically think that our friends and loved ones (and back then, fellow Americans) are safe to be around..just because we know and love them.
