Why Are There Already Promising Potential Vaccines?

Some pluperfect fool just now posted something, already hidden, suggesting the existence of promising vaccines and drugs might indicate the virus was man-made, doubtless by some nefarious corporatist or the U.S. military, though the villain's identity was only hinted towards. I claim no medical knowledge of any consequence, but i do know this much.

The virus is part of a family of viruses, some of which have proved extremely lethal. Vaccine research already underway for some time, into prevention of these earlier permutations can be, and is being, applied to this new sport from the family. Since all are related, there is prospect of success, or at least of quicker success than if research was compelled to start from scratch. There are also a wide range of anti-viral compounds already in existence which may prove usable, particularly with certain tweaks. Nothing about any of this suggests pre-planning or any nefarious plot by anyone.

It's a bad idea to go all fever-swamp woo about this. Not just foolish but potentially destructive.
