Elon Musk: Should Have 1000 Ventilators Next Week, + 250,000 N95 Masks For Hospitals Tomorrow --

“We have 250k N95 masks. Aiming to start distributing those to hospitals tomorrow night. Should have over 1000 ventilators by next week.”

https://cleantechnica.com/2020/03/21/elon-musk-should-have-1000-ventilators-next-week-250k-n95-masks-for-hospitals-tomorrow-cleantechnica-exclusive/

I think we need to "go over the head" of the administration. Democrats (and especially our presumptive nominee Joe Biden) should be actively contacting private companies to change over their production methods to make vital medical gear. If necessary promise them repayment next year after Trump gets sent packing.

...and not the causes. Where are the bottlenecks? I imagine a lot of these are manufactured overseas which would cause the supply chain to be cut off.

I mean you can't find masks, gloves, or anything even in a store now. Experts have told people to stop hoarding them because our font-line medical personnel need them. And Trump just did nothing but wave it off.

But Americans are exceedingly selfish and stupid - and hoarded anyway. Too many of them voted for and also still support Trump.

So here we are.

But if all the production was moved overseas it could really be an issue when there are only weeks to work with.

This type of risk to national security has already been identified in a variety of sectors, including steel and aluminum.

Again, it would be better to focus on solutions.

them - they aren't coming!

Almost everyday this week, the killer has stated that state gov't need to do the work of getting supplies because it is not his administrations job to do this.

I wonder if there is anyone left in GSA to issue PO's or however that works. Someone needs to go in and give blanket POs and just start emailing or whatever.

Beg forgiveness and not permission. General Honoree' from Katrina had some good ideas on Lawrence O'Donnell's show (Ali Beshar sitting in).

It's time for out of the box & creative thinking. First would be to go directly to mfg who already have these capabilities and go from there. Why is everyone wanting to create these type of mfg from whole cloth when they already exist.

I still think it's for everyone up there to buy stock. The GOP sell off last month is just the tip of the iceberg.

As Always, YMMV

One government study from 2015, though, estimated that 1.7 billion to 3.5 billion such masks would be needed in a pandemic—and that was in its most optimistic scenario.

How does self quarantine and social distancing work in manufacturing facilities? Can't make masks unless you wear one?

He is as much a publicity hound as Drumpf with an ego as large.

Btw, “should have” doesn’t translate as “will have” or “do have”.

This week, Medtronic (NYSE:MDT) announced that it will double its capacity to manufacture and supply ventilators. The Fridley, Minn.-based company doubled the number of shifts in manufacturing ventilators at its Galway, Ireland, manufacturing facility, bringing it to a 24/7 operation as additional staff is being transferred from other Medtronic sites to increase activities, according to a news release. The company said it is prioritizing high-risk/high-need areas for ventilator allocation on a weekly basis, but is monitoring the situation as it unfolds.

MARCH 19, 2020 BY SEAN WHOOLEY

News broke this week that Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York is reportedly experiencing shortages of masks and other protective equipment, and it is not alone in that regard. Last week, reports claimed that some U.S. hospitals were facing short supplies of N95 respirator masks from 3M (NYSE:MMM). The company said in a news release on March 2 that its plant in Aberdeen, S.D., is running around the clock producing the masks.

At a coronavirus task force press conference this week, Vice President Mike Pence also asked construction companies to donate to their local hospitals their stocks of N95 respirator masks and stop ordering more for the time being. Yesterday, President Donald Drumpf announced that he is invoking the Defense Production Act, a Korean War–era law that enables government actions to boost needed supplies.

In response to the several reports of shortages amid the coronavirus crisis, Medtronic (NYSE:MDT) announced late last night that it is set to double its capacity to manufacture and supply ventilators

Coronavirus: Palm Springs ventilator manufacturer works to ease shortage caused by pandemic
Christopher Damien, Palm Springs Desert SunPublished 6:34 p.m. PT March 19, 2020 | Updated 8:27 p.m. PT March 19, 2020

While Palm Springs is quiet in light of the shelter-in-place order that limits all but a few essential businesses from normal operations in hopes of curbing the local spread of the coronavirus, much-needed ventilators continue to be produced in a nondescript facility a stone’s throw from The Desert Sun newsroom.

The breathing machines are packed into wooden shipping boxes slated to be sent to medical facilities around the world — but not before the boxes are stamped with sober advisories of the fragile cargo inside:

Government should be coordinating this show, not guys like Elon Musk.

Oh, this IS good news. And other good news - lots of manufacturers are stepping up. Governors are stepping up. Local governments.

BUT THERE'S NO CENTRAL LEADERSHIP BECAUSE TRUMP IS INCAPABLE OF THAT.

We have a president who manages by chaos AND THAT ISN'T WHAT IS NEEDED NOW.
