(I was previously given permission by Skinner to post periodically about http://www.wishadoo.org, especially when it involves DUers, with this required disclaimer: "The administrators of Democratic Underground have given permission for one discussion thread on this topic. The administrators of Democratic Underground make no claims regarding the legitimacy or illegitimacy of this fundraising effort. Permission was granted by Skinner on 8/6/2010, and the moderators have been notified."

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!!!!!! Catbyte has asked that I ask people to stop donating, as she has reached what she feels she needs to breathe for the moment. She is overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity.
YOU ARE ALL AMAZING!!!!!

Earlier today DUer catbyte created this DU post to share her experience and the dreadful situation she finds herself in, which includes fearing for her three cats after receiving an eviction notice. She wrote:
"You know how they say that many folks are 1 paycheck away from disaster? Well I am 1/2 a paycheck from disaster and disaster has hit. My husband has been in a nursing home for 18 months and will likely be there permanently due to the ravages of having Type I Diabetes for 54 years. He has vascular dementia and has lost part of a foot. Our insurance ran out and I was hit with a big bill before Medicaid kicked in. It paid some months retroactively but not all. I was faced with a choice of keeping a roof over his head or mine. I think I can stay with friends for a while but I am worried sick about my 3 cats.
I never thought I would be in this position at age 57. Sorry but I just had to vent. The healthcare system in this country sucks even if you have insurance."
The link below takes you to the Wishlist post, which gives a bit more information, including contact (and PayPal) info for catbyte if you can help in any way.
http://www.wishadoo.org/wishlist/124/facing-eviction-in-sw-michigan-worried-about-3-cats/
catbyte would GREATLY appreciate it if you would kindly:
* Recommend this thread and keep it kicked
* Share the Wishlist post with your social networks (or share from here, of course)
* Offer whatever support you can (information, advice, financial support, well wishes, etc.)
You can contact her here at DU through PM, at Wishadoo, or send an email to her as noted in the Wishlist post.
PLEASE NOTE: Anyone is welcome to use the tools at Wishadoo, so long as the Terms of Service are adhered to (basically "play nice" and don't lie). This includes creating posts in the Wishlist, a "craigslist of compassion." Most of us are struggling with one thing or another, and as you'll see, there are many categories in the Wishlist to cover a variety of issues/needs.
Wishadoo! is a portal of sorts, where there are tools to create more compassionate, cooperative communities; the Wishlist is where we can ask, offer, give, receive and pay it forward. If you create a Wishlist post, let me know your DU name, and I can start to do weekly or biweekly threads such as this to highlight DUers' needs and offerings.
(FYI, the Wishlist post regarding Bubble & Squeak was shared far and wide, and eventually led to a happy yet bittersweet ending -- given the poignant circumstances -- thanks to the heroism of several DUers and well wishes of many non-DUers around the country. BTW, we may need an update from DUer, jsmirman, as to whether or not he is still in need of funds to cover everything; the DNC and other news events derailed that effort, last I heard. We were almost there, though...)

I realize there are pleas for help from every corner nowadays, but if you are able to help support the administrative costs of Wishadoo! so the website can continue to provide tools to help one another, there aren't enough words to express my gratitude. I struggle tremendously myself and hate to ask, especially when I'm posting to ask for help for others, but ask I must. Remember that Glenn Beck branded Wishadoo! as part of the community/socialist/fascist conspiracy on his show, so I know we're on the right track with such endeavors for The Common Good!
Investing in Wishadoo! goes toward the cost of maintaining the site, NOT toward any Wishlist posts. That takes place one on one, between Wishadoo! members. ~ OneGrassRoot[br]

(22,920 posts)Given my nightmare with the Glenn Beck followers and others harassing me when I post things here at DU, I'm hesitant to give out anyone's email in my posts. I'm sure it's fine, so long as I don't do it...lol.
Thanks, Melinda!

(5,465 posts)You are contributing in spirit and moral support, and oftentimes it is these acts that are the most uplifting of all. There will be a time when you can do a different type of support, and that's more than good enough. That's perfect.
My biggest contribution is in helping ensure this thread gets views; you have just helped do this too.
And OGR and Wishadoo rock!

(3,147 posts)How does one donate to her? I understand her account is catbyte08, but I don't know how to get there.
OneGrassRoot
(22,920 posts)but until then, if you log into your PayPal account, then click to "send" money, when you insert her email address, it will go to her.
Hope that helps.

(3,147 posts)I don't have a device that does those scan buttons.
Trailrider1951
(3,414 posts)go to paypal.com
log into your account
click on the tab above that says "Send Money"
decide on the amount you wish to give and
send it to catbyte08's e-mail address which can be found at the wishadoo address
Now, paypal called me at my home phone to verify that I did indeed want to send this, and I put in a security code that they provided. Don't be freaked out by that.
Thank you for helping her. Pay it forward.

(95 posts)I wish you catbyte and your kitties the best in resolving your situation. The support from DU'ers is very heartwarming, my eyes well with tears that people have to suffer like this and for so many right on the brink. Many of us, me included, are a paycheck or less away from this and times are very scary.
Much love and peace your way.

(34,386 posts)I wrote this post out of frustration and despair and I needed to vent to people I knew could understand. Your offers of help and compassion are truly overwhelming. My 16 year old cat, Nigel,, is sitting in my lap wondering why his fur is becoming so wet and salty. I can't begin to tell you how grateful I am. The only family I have left are my beloved husband of 28 years, Chuck, and my cats.
No matter how this all ends, I will be forever touched by each and every one of you and I vow to pay this forward somehow. I will update.
I love you all.

(145 posts)Too late to contribute to catbyte so some support to Wishadoo was in order.
This episode watching the DU response to helping catbyte has been, for me, the most pleasant experience I have encountered here. Kinda fills me with a nice warm fuzzy feeling knowing someone has gone from imminent eviction to relative stability.
