Scott Huddleston March 20, 2020
Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff signed a new executive order Thursday in response to the coronavirus pandemic that closely aligns with the one issued by Gov. Greg Abbott earlier in the day but goes even further it imposes price controls on basic necessities and possible jail time for violators.
Wolffs order unexpectedly added price controls, prohibiting anyone from charging more for groceries, beverages, toilet articles, ice, medicine, medical supplies and meals than they did as of 11:59 p.m. Thursday.
The county judge said he hadnt had any reports of price gouging in Bexar County, but he didnt want to see it happening here.
We want to be on alert for that to make sure nobody is taken advantage of, particularly the elderly, Wolff said.
The citys order, which also mirrors Abbotts order, also was approved Thursday, by the City Council. It includes a fine of up to $2,000 for violations of the order. The countys fine is half of that up to $1,000 but it also gives a judge the option of imposing up to six months of jail time instead of a fine.

COVID-19 concerns lead to unusual bans in Dallas County
A new Dallas County order limits how much toilet paper you can buy, how closely you can jog with others, and is ordering more businesses to close.

As the novel coronavirus continues to spread through North Texas, Dallas County officials Saturday announced unusual bans to flatten the curve.
The changes include limiting how much toilet paper residents can buy and ticketing people exercising or playing too closely to others outside.
Youve likely seen empty shelves while at your local grocery store, where youve also probably seen customers buying more than they need.
Some of us have not moved from selfishness to sacrifice, Jenkins said.
Because of that, Dallas County residents are now limited to 12 rolls of toilet paper, or one package, if it contains more than 12 rolls. That will be in effect for two weeks, or until the supply chain meets the demand.

AMEN to that! Elected officials, religious leaders, and the media need to drive that important message.

(54,405 posts)2. An old friend of ours had a stroke last year
He barely survived, and is on a very long road to recovery. He is incontinent, and his wife needs three rolls of toilet paper a day just to lean him up. He had a serious further incident, and had been hospitalized again for the last two weeks, but hopes to be released in another week. His wife has tried to find a small reserve of toilet paper but has searched every store in their town and come up empty. Other people are hoarding year-long supplies, while she can't find enough to handle an upcoming emergency situation. Her faith in her fellow citizens has plummeted, needless to say.
