Pence and all the other costumed extras from central casting are just there as props to make him look presidential. They speak on cue, act deferential and submissive, and they never correct any of Trump's lies or squelch his wild and crazy speculations about things he doesn't understand.

It's all for TV. Trump's purpose seems to be centered of sowing the seeds of confusion, spreading suspicion and maximizing the doom and gloom to rachet up fear.
