Manchin erupts into shouting match with McConnell: Youre more concerned about the health of Wall Street
Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) called out Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) on Monday for being more concerned with propping up the economy than providing supplies to hospitals fighting the novel coronavirus.
You can throw all the money at Wall Street you want to, Manchin said after McConnell blamed Democrats for a stalled stimulus bill. People are afraid to leave their homes. Theyre afraid of the health care. Ive got workers who dont have masks. Ive got health care workers who dont have gowns.
And it looks like were worried more about the economy than we are the health care and the wellbeing of the people of America, the West Virginia senator complained.

(22,913 posts)I watched several press conferences that he conducted, and came away convinced that he had had a real heart and genuine empathy and compassion for working people. I can't remember now exactly what he said or did that gave me that very strong impression, but it was more than him just acting "concerned". He's middle of the road and all that, but he isn't plastic, and he probably has core values that have kept him from switching his party identification over to Republican in a State like WV which would no doubt reward him for doing so if he did. I am sure the Republican Party would embrace him with open arms

What we care about should never be about them; it should be about who they don't care about.
WE should have protestors in the halls and galleries of the capitol building. Then they should threaten to cough all at once. That's cloture motion debate enough.

(1,648 posts)Because that is the damn truth of what that wormy little SOB really is.
People that see Moscow Mitch in public need to unload on his ass and keep reminding him that he only gives a shit about the health corporations over the citizens of this country.
And that is what a lot of people in this country do not get yet, that republicans only recognize corporations as citizens and actual citizens as subjects to be abused. All republicans are long overdue from being called out on that fact.

(81,332 posts)I ordinarily dont expect too much from him. Hes so moderate so much of the time that I often wonder why the heck hes still a Democrat.
This is GOOD! Hes one of those DEMS who can be expected to vote with the CONS sometimes. When we worry about whether Senate Dems will stick together on sticky issues, hes one of the soft-underbelly ones who have to be leaned on to keep them in the tent. Hes the one most likely to be convinced of the other sides point of view, and then cave right in.
Sounds like he might not be such a pushover on this. MIGHT not.
