because an employee has the Coronavirus. This will have an exponential ripple throughout the Post Office nationwide. So far there are no deaths in Santa Fe but the cases of infection are beginning to climb. Our city has only a few dozen cases. Luckily our governor mobilized very quickly early on because we are a huge tourist destination. Everything is closed down now. Schools are closed for the rest of the year and weve been staying at home since the day the World Health Organization declared COVID 19 was a pandemic. Over the last weeks all government offices have been closed. So have all restaurants and businesses. This is no longer a voluntary activity.
Im not worried for myself. Ive been pretty much a hermit for two years hardly going out at all. For me life is the same as it was before the virus. But I worry about the way this virus is hurting so many people.
The state is expecting a death toll of 513 deaths by the beginning of August. The population in The entire state is just over 2 million people, so were not that concentrated compared to just the cities of New York or LA, Seattle, etc. as a tourist destination this virus would have hit us like it hit New Orleans after they had Mardi Gras which now has the highest mortality rate in the country. That would have happened to us if it had hit us during the tourist season. We lucked out. Maybe.
The quick actions of our governor is going to help us.

(25,857 posts)I know that they've already shut down the substations and I believe only the one on Pacheco street and the one downtown were still open. Did one of those two also close?

(20,760 posts)They expect it to re-open after it's thoroughly disinfected and staff have been tested and the results are reported.
We shall see.
I am SO grateful to the postal personnel who are carrying on getting the mail to us!
appreciatively,

(25,857 posts)I wanted to mail some things so I went to the Pacheco station yesterday. Really not many people there and they were enforcing social distance, which was nice. And I was glad to get some packages mailed.
