Let me paint an extremely vivid, dark piece of reality in the potential near future...
Until youre ready to make decisions regarding the survivability and quality of life of a patient versus their need for a ventilator, oscillator, and other life saving machines/resources...
Until youre ready to black tag patients and push them out of their rooms into the hallway or to a tent to die with no one by their side because theyre contagious and have a zero percent chance to survive versus their need of utilized resources, staff, and room...
Until youre ready to push Morphine and Ativan into a living human being to kill their respiratory drive, watching them gasp for air for potential days on end fighting to live, ultimately causing their heart to stop from lack of oxygen...
Until youre ready to call a husband, wife, mother, father, son, daughter, etc. to tell them that their otherwise healthy 29 year old relative with no past medical history has passed unexpectedly...
Until youre ready for those realities...
Your quarantine discomfort, your social distancing groans, your conspiracy theories, your opinion on the transmission and treatment of this virus do not mean a damn thing to me. Welcome to your created present from not listening when you had the chance.

People like me are wishing that some/lots of video footage, with faces appropriately blurred, could be played on national media - after accusations of false flag, staged, crisis actors etc fade away, maybe a tad of reality would seep through the national conscience. Maybe.

Best wishes to the Carolina Medical Center, and the folks who are working their a&&es off (and of course all medical personnel).
This is our reality in the health care sphere, this is what we are facing...and the willfully ignorant, arrogant sob that resides in our White House is choosing to ignore this, and not only ignore it but to encourage those not affected to ignore it, all in the hopes of preserving his office

(6,556 posts)I lost my Dad to advanced COPD, and it was weeks in a hospital watching him gasping for breath. It does something to your soul to stand by helpless, unable to do anything to change the outcome. We have front line medical staff who will come out of this with PTSD. We are also losing medical personnel every day to the virus itself. This is no a joke, it is not a practice session, and we need all hands on deck to win against this threat.

(8,826 posts)You just can't prevent stupidity...........or for people being Trumphumpers........
New Orleans allowing the mardi gras, Florida beach people swarming for their ritual spring break, congregations that stuff themselves elbow to elbow in a church. vs. the people who listened and have done the right thing despite the insanity that Trump & his band of Merry little Republican minded friends are flagrantly mis-directing.
They are all candidates for the infamous "DARWIN AWARD", although the have no idea who Darwin was because it is obvious they missed science class through out the time they were finishing their grade school education.

To you for asking the IMPotus to take action to safe lives, they say FU
To you for covering your mouth as not to contract aerosols being coughed into the air around you, they say hahaha, FU
They demand our loyalty to their deity, Donald tRump.
To them, I say, FU right back! You're on your own Cult45.

(28,797 posts)and shared it from there. it's powerful.
my son's girlfriend's boss has forced her and her entire office to go to work this whole time (in Raleigh). Now, with 1st Wake County and now the governor issuing stay at home orders, i really don't see how she can keep on doing that. Her job could have easily been done from home this whole time. i'm so pissed about it.
i sent it to my son as well and said this is for [his girlfriend]'s boss.
Interesting.

(5,067 posts)She just spent the last 3 night shifts in a virus unit caring for 4 positive patients, 1 on a vent. She called me today to say she felt safer there than any other part of the hospital because it was the only area where they are wearing protective gear. Even the ER at her hospital does not have masks. She wanted to bring one from home the last time she did a 3 day shift as charge nurse for the entire hospital and was told "NO". The reason, if patients saw her wearing a mask it might make them nervous. She said she is seriously thinking of quitting and volunteering in New York, a place that is taking this seriously.

(28,797 posts)Every health care worker, EMS, police, etc, should have ample protective gear. you wouldn't send your front line soldiers out to battle holding butter knives.
even trash haulers - a sanitation worker in Raleigh died from covid-19 within the past couple days.

(31,261 posts)her on the spot once they check on her experience in the field. My oldest brother was once treated by a charge Nurse that came to Florida from Ohio or Indiana, she knew her job and was able to get my brother, who frankly was being an ass, to cooperate in his care.

(9,998 posts)Trumps press conferences are useless, except for Dr. Fauci. The media should stop airing Trumps propaganda campaign rallies masquerading as virus updates and instead interview Dr. Fauci separately and air those interviews to keep people informed. Then they should show images from hospitals around the country every single day. Some people just need to have repeated exposure to finally grasp an idea!
This situation reminds me somewhat of news coverage of the Vietnam War. The media did its duty then and brought images of the war and the suffering of us soldiers and Vietnamese allies into the living rooms of every person in America on the evening news. The media enabled people to see what was really happening versus the government line. The media also shed light on the fact that we were fighting a war we could not win for a reason we did not know or understand. Another useless war that Republicans and Democrats alike conducted over an ideology different from capitalism, which has its own problems.
I long for days of media that told the story instead of kowtowing to leaders for fear of offending them.
