"SNIP......
As Liberty Universitys spring break was drawing to a close this month, Jerry Falwell Jr., its president, spoke with the physician who runs Libertys student health service about the rampaging coronavirus, the New York Times reports.
So Mr. Falwell a staunch ally of President Trump and an influential voice in the evangelical world reopened the university last week, igniting a firestorm, epidemiologically and otherwise. As of Friday, nearly a dozen Liberty students were sick with symptoms that suggest Covid-19, the disease caused by the virus.
.....SNIP"

Falwell: "You are going now to be with Jesus, how safe do you think that is?"

They came back knowing they were sick. What is wrong with these people? You aren't feeling well and you go back to school and then go to health services?
Arrogant asshats.....

(118,774 posts)are showing symptoms another 2.5 to 3.5 have caught it this week at Liberty U and are a symptomatic or will develop symptoms. 2.5 to 3.5 is the number of people the average case infects. Multiply that by 12 (and more because some are carriers now) and you have next week's number. The University should have stayed closed. My dad is in a nursing home and they are feeding people in their rooms at times. Why? No group events. No mixing.

(14,837 posts)And the students who were found to have the disease came back to school with a full fledged case. They had to have symptoms a week ago.
We are just getting the "report" today, which means they reported to health services about 4 or 5 days ago, about a day or two after they arrived back on campus.
They came back sick and they knew it.
And yes, in a dorm environment I'm sure there were hugs and kisses and parties upon their return. In a dorm environment, especial upon return after a long break, it is probably much more than 3.5..... probably 10.

(3,282 posts)quite likely the students who brought it back were not showing symptoms when they returned.

(14,837 posts)neither do you, and the timeline is on my side.
Lets go backwards:
Today (T0): we get the report made public
T0-1 or 2: They have the results, and need to decide on a media release and PR plan, plus parent notification
T0-3: students have piled into health services in enough numbers with symptoms that require them to be tested
t0-5: students start to seek medical help. They are not feeling well and are concerned enough to go to the health center on campus or a local clinic
T0-7: they return to campus. Likely not feeling well but not so badly they need medical help
We are talking about the healthiest segment of our population and one that should blow through an infection with few symptoms. For several of them to present themselves within a week of returning and warrant testing is a sign they were sick when they returned. It is also a sign a large part of the student body is sick.
The data supports that.

(3,282 posts)Given that incubation can take 14 days and many people never show any symptoms.

(14,837 posts)You don't do that unless you are very sick. They were sick for several days. They had to be.
Sorry, not buying it.

(10,530 posts)Branson is probably the only place they are allowed to visit if they actually follow their rules when off campus

(10,530 posts)unless maybe they are safer at there than at their parents place, if you live off campus you probably can't get out of your lease
