My first Gay Pride in NYC was the first time the Empire state building was lit with pale lavender gels (thanks to Leona Helmsley), before the time vibrant LEDs or lasers... Many, many times since then the folks behind the basic lighting of that building have moved me to tears... from 9/11 to the vibrant rainbow when NY State recognized gay marriage to this.
