The federal agency recommends the following for those using Zoom:
Don't make meetings public. Zoom lets users make meetings private by requiring a meeting password or using a waiting room feature to control who's admitted.
Don't share a link to the meeting on a public social media post. Send the link to people directly.
Change the screen-sharing option in Zoom to "host only."
Ask people to use the latest updated version of Zoom.
Ensure your organization's telework policy addresses requirements for information security.

(14,491 posts)I've already heard of two groups in my realm either using or considering using Zoom for on-line meetings or classroom work: a.) my daughter, a grade school teacher, for her classes to help complete their school year, and b.) a friend says his addiction recovery program is already using Zoom for meetings.
I'll forward this info to both those people. I had seen on another source that using Zoom could be risky if proper security precautions are not taken.

(4,079 posts)last weekend. It worked great (I had never used it before) but I kept worrying about getting bombed with porn all day. Never happened.
They said we had over 700 delegates online at the same time which was INCREDIBLE participation for an on-line meeting.

(13,496 posts)have been grappling with this potential issue. But it's also been very successfully used here. Starting school via zoom tomorrow (my elementary school kid). She's at a montessori, so it's not clear how it'll be fully utilized. But I'm really happy her spring break is done and we are going "back" to school. She needs the focus and it's been tough coming up with ideas for her to do where I can actually get some work done on my own while my husband is full time teaching high school.

(14,491 posts)and also going back to our old-timey ways of heavily using the telephone.
My daughter, the reading teacher, set herself up an office in their basement just for doing this so she can get privacy from the other three people in her house. The county board of education and her school's group of teachers are still working out the tremendous details of getting it done. They have a lot of complications such as kids without internet service and kids with special needs.
I have total confidence they will get it done. They are part of the group of teachers that miraculously gave us our new Democratic governor!

(13,496 posts)sounds awesome! Hope it goes well for her.
I think people have been extraordinarily flexible and well intentioned during these times. It's great to see teachers rolling with it and excelling at maintaining normalcy through extreme conditions.
