Tractor trailer hauling toilet paper catches fire on Interstate 80

As was foretold in Revelations...

CLEARFIELD CO, Pa (WJAC) - According to a Facebook post from the Lawrence Township fire department, crews responded to reports of a commercial vehicle fire in Clearfield County early Wednesday morning.

The Lawrence Township fire company says that several crews were dispatched around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday for a tractor trailer fire near the 110 westbound mile marker of Interstate 80.

Officials say that once they arrived on scene, it was determined that the truck was hauling toilet paper and that the fire was beginning to spread to a nearby wooded area.

The driver was able to escape the blaze without injury and it is unclear what caused the fire.

Need toilet paper? Procter & Gamble plant goes into overdrive during coronavirus crisis

MEHOOPANY, Pa. - The Procter & Gamble factory in Mehoopany, Pennsylvania, has long been a key fixture of the rural community.

Generations of families have worked there. The Wyoming County United Way counts P&G, which opened its plant in 1966, as its biggest financial supporter. While a map shows the facility tucked neatly into a curve of the Susquehanna River, it’s a physically large presence.

And though few people outside Wyoming County know all that, shoppers have cleared shelves of its products across the country in recent weeks.

Bounty paper towels and napkins, Pampers and Luvs diapers and Charmin toilet paper are all made at P&G’s largest U.S. factory, which is also adding face masks to its output.

The plant is located about an hour’s drive south of downtown Binghamton mostly along rural and scenic Route 267. It employs about 2,200 people who are getting temperature checks and being encouraged to practice social distancing as they continue churning out the products that Americans have been stockpiling as the coronavirus spreads. Mehoopany Township was reported in 2017 to be home to only 896 people.

Around the time social media started filling up with photos of barren shelves, “miles upon miles of tractor trailers” could be seen waiting to pick up P&G’s products from Mehoopany, said Kristen Huff, executive director of the Wyoming County United Way.

One of our big USPS tractor trailers headed to Austin was in an accident and caught on fire.

A big chunk of the mail inside? Tax returns headed to the IRS. Yeah, we got a great laugh out of that one.

It was far enough in advance that most people had time to submit another return, but some people hadn’t heard about the accident on the news. It was only when they called the IRS after they didn’t get their returns or their checks hadn’t cleared that they found out. Believe it or not, the IRS was nice enough to let those people refile without any penalties. As long as you were from X range of ZIP codes, the IRS knew your tax return might have gotten cremated.
