It's killing the oil producers in TX.
"But those are all big multinationals!"
No, the produces tend to be much, much smaller, names you've usually never heard. Lots of smaller companies, hiring out in the backwaters of Texas. Result is going to be a lot of increased unemployment of people with jobs paying pretty good wages. Not that we need those.
A byproduct of this is natural gas. Like natural gas, you don't want a shortage because oil production's down.
And, finally, once the oil production's decreased and the companies go belly up, it'll make the oil prices increase even more when the shutdown's over, and we'll be even more at the mercy of Russian and Saudi Arabia. Think of this as "economic infrastructure". It'll take a while to establish rights, get the equipment, get set up.
But it's nice because it'll save us a few dollars a week. Which is always helpful.

(43,049 posts)Russia and the Saudis can profit at 20 bucks a barrel. Not a big profit, but not the losses Canadian tar sands or fracking operations will see.
The idea is to knock the US out of oil and gas production. Remember-- it's not just oil. Russia has huge gas reserves and pipelines to Europe. Knocking our frackers out of the equation helps them enormously.

(24,505 posts)Honestly, he expects the American people care about rebalancing supply? No one is going anywhere, demand is tanking. We have a whole lot more concerns than what his friends MBS and Putin want.
Funny, at the presser the other day, Trump was telling us about the silver lining of low gas prices. What changed?
