(54,770 posts)that is not paid by people with private insurance.
Many people will get retroactive coverage through Medicaid. In other cases, payments will be made to hospitals for uninsured patients, probably at Medicaid or Medicare rates and with similar billing rules. The big insurers are going to cover coinsurance and deductibles.
This is something that has never been done before, and is darn close to government coverage for everyone (for costs related to this disease). The precedent has been set, the doors are open if we vote in November.

(15,805 posts)I was never very good at math, but even I can figure out that paying cash to cover patients with the virus who will need prolonged stays in ICUs is a hell of a lot more expensive than paying for their insurance premiums under Obamacare.
Does Trump draw the line with his cash payout only covering treatment for virus patients, and will he be mean enough to carve out any other charges for managing those patients with other preexisting medical conditions and make them pay for those bills on their own? To say nothing of covering any other family members until they get seriously ill.
I hope to see Pelosi counter his insanely expensive idea with a push to get more uninsured people covered for all their healthcare needs through Obamacare. It's the only thing that makes sense.
