(14,764 posts)Here in MA, it is a 15 minute exercise to sign up, entirely on-line. It wouldn't take that long if you don't want direct deposit.
You will get a determination of eligibility in a day. You will get unemployment money deposited in a day from the time you submit your weekly claim.
But I see stories of people getting nothing but busy signals in some states. Websites that crash continuously. Long lines in person with no spacing.
Ughh. And people still vote red. Wake up sheeples.

(17,444 posts)Per the new legislation the benefits are to be extended to self-employed and other gig economy workers who traditionally are ineligible. All states' websites that I have checked said they were waiting on Federal guidance before they could begin. Several said they hoped to be up for these people in a week or two, but most gave no estimate.

(14,764 posts)It will be months before they define the rules and funding mech's and pass them to the states.
If then. Their goal is to push this out so faqar they can just claim it isn't needed anymore and the goal is to get people back to work.
Remember, they believe that these benefits will keep people from working. Forget that there are simply no jobs to take. Forget that people have bills and families to support.
It's all about the owner of chick-a-fillet who needs minimum wage workers to show up when he wants them back. But f' them in the mean time.
