"SNIP.....

President Donald Trump has a “small financial interest” in the drugmaker of an anti-malarial drug that he has been touting as a “game changer” in treating coronavirus, according to The New York Times. Over the past two weeks, Trump and his Fox News allies have aggressively promoted hydroxychloroquine as a potential cure despite top infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci urging cautionand noting that there was not enough evidence of the drug’s efficacy.

The Times reports that the president’s family trusts all have investments in a mutual fund whose largest holding is Sanofi, the manufacturer of Plaquenil, the brand-name version of hydroxychloroquine. Associates of the president, including Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, have also run funds that hold investments in the pharmaceutical firm.

His response was slow because he's a magical thinker who doesn't listen to experts, especially when they're telling him such downer news that a plague is coming. This is the 21st century, plagues are things that happened in the Middle Ages.

I doubt he knows half of what his holdings are or what they do.

He's taking hydroxychloroquine on the basis of a tiny French study that has been contradicted by other equally small studies. Large scale studies are being done in teaching hospitals across the US but the results won't be in for months. In the meantime, he's eating his Plaquenil and feeling bulletproof, which means he'll start taking a lot of chances against everyone's advice.

His performances at the daily briefings are waking one hell of a lot of people up since his function seems to be to shut his experts up and keep the spotlight on himself.

He's going to need to restart his pep rallies within a couple of weeks and he knows it. They're like oxygen to him and he's terrified he's losing his hardcore fan base.

If Trump has a plan here, it would prove he can do finance schemes and get rich by it. His whole life is evidence of the contrary. failed planes all over. His medical babbling is just what it is. Him babbling.

This notion that he's manipulating the market is silly. He's not smart about investing & he doesn't have friends in that community.
They tolerated him while the markets continued its unwarranted continued rise. Now that the virus has exposed the inflated state of the market, & these folks have lost 20+% of their value, they're not going to allow themselves to be manipulated over the demand of a low margin generic.

My questions are, when were the shares purchased; when did he know about them; does he own an extortionate amount of them; is he selling them before studies are published about it not being the miracle cure he touts.

"He said the company had made a choice to “overproduce” its drugs to ensure supplies for hospitals in Europe and the United States facing an unprecedented crush of patients suffering from respiratory complications that is threatening to overwhelm healthcare systems.

"Hospital executives and doctors from nine European countries, in an open letter on Wednesday, said they only had up to two weeks worth of some medicines used in intensive care units and urged greater European collaboration. "

"The company began manufacturing as much hydroxychloroquine as it could in February, after Chinese data suggested the malaria drug could help some patients with COVID-19. Sanofi sells the drug, which has been in use since the 1950s, under the brand name Plaquenil in some countries. "

Wanted to add the suggestion of this drug has nothing to do with money or investments .... also this drug seems to help with combination of another one .

is approved as treatment for coronavirus even though Trump would have been briefed on it as President. It was his job. I pray it works. I pray the people get that scientists have to protect people by following science.

[link:https://lawandcrime.com/covid-19-pandemic/major-producer-of-hydroxychloroquine-once-paid-michael-cohen-hefty-sum-for-access-to-trump/|

The Swiss drug maker signed a contract that paid Cohen’s newly formed limited-liability corporation Essential Consultants $100,000 per month in February of 2017. After details of the deal were leaked by the now-jailed Michael Avenatti, whose then-client Stormy Daniels was engaged in a legal dispute with the president, the company’s CEO issued a public apology saying Novartis “made a mistake” in contracting with the president’s personal attorney.

will crow about his brilliance. If it doesn't he will pretend he never promoted it. Don't forget he would get briefings on it before anyone else in the West. Just because he doesn't have to follow the scientific method and is touting this doesn't mean it is not promissing. We should be wary of implying it is good or bad at this point. The science has not spoken and we, who respect the science, need to heed that.

Trump is likely too stupid to realize this will benefit his portfolio.

This is about Trump's pathological ego. He's not functionally capable of admitting he doesn't know what he's talking about and needs to defer to experts. He just can't share that spotlight. So, like he always does, from the Muslim ban on down, he blurted out something he saw on right-wing media, and now he's obsessed with it because his ego prevents him from ever being proved wrong.

Well, profit from this drug isn’t his motive.

Trump knows presidents who have yooge recessions happen in their first terms usually don’t get second terms. He also knows his hospitality and golf properties are bleeding cash, and he needs to fix this problem. He believes HCQ to be some sort of miracle drug that will solve those problems.

I haven’t checked Derek Lowe’s site today, but yesterday he had a bunch of trial results up that seem to indicate HCQ doesn’t actually work - that supportive care and treating comorbidities are the correct treatment for a Covid-19 infection.

Promising or otherwise. He has medical experts for that but, as usual, he puts himself on par or above with their training and expertise. He cannot possibly admit there are some (many) subjects for which he has no education or training to comment. A hunch does not count in the world of science. So he just needs to stifle his urge to weigh in on anything to do with the medical aspects of the Covid-19 crisis.

P.S. I am not naive enough to think that will ever happen. I’m just stating my opinion about what should happen. If I had my way, he would not be the man in the top spot....period.
