Trump calls the virus "a brilliant enemy." He adds, "Antibiotics used to solve every problem" but now "the germ has gotten so brilliant that the antibiotic can't keep up with it." He adds, "There's a whole genius to it." He adds of the virus, "It's hidden, but it's very smart."

(11,752 posts)Doesn't know the difference between a virus, upon which antibiotics have no effect, and bacteria, which are what antibiotics are designed to kill.
Our country is in the hands of an idiot who couldn't even pass freshman biology class.

At best, he may as well be calling the White House rose bushes "smart."
He is so stupid that he has to anthropomorphize a virus and label it brilliance to excuse his incompetence. In the first place, it is bacteria that becomes resistant to antibiotics. It happens through adaptation not through any sentient process. We use the same antibiotics and arguably overuse them, and the bacteria that inevitably survives, reproduces with resistance.
Viruses, which we all know, are different. Basically strands of RNA which adapt to replicate themselves inside of our cells. We have antiviral medications but they are not a many effective ones as antibiotics. Antivirals don't kill the virus, they just stop them from multiplying so that our own immune system can catch up.
