The original misery index, created by economist Arthur Okun, is an indicator of how the average American citizen is doing economically. The basic premise is that heightened unemployment rates and worsening inflation rates combined, create grave economic and social costs for the country. President Trump premised his successful administration and potential re-elect on a strong economy.
