This guy is truly a piece of shit...Peter Navarro, the White House trade adviser who is now coordinating the countrys medical supply chain, is warning that a prolonged shutdown of nonessential commerce could result in a broad range of negative health effects that he contends medical experts are ignoring in their efforts to flatten the curve of coronavirus cases.
Its disappointing that so many of the medical experts and pundits pontificating in the press appear tone-deaf to the very significant losses of life and blows to American families that may result from an extended economic shutdown, Mr. Navarro said in an interview with The New York Times.
Instead, they piously preen on their soap boxes speaking only half of the medical truth without reference or regard for the other half of the equation, he said, which is the very real mortal dangers associated with the closure of the economy for an extended period.

(804 posts)What doesn't he understand about the economic crisis IS CAUSED BY THE MEDICAL CRISIS??? Until you have the medical crisis under control, you WILL NOT improve the economic crisis. As a matter of fact, it could make it much, much, worse. These people have already failed in their initial response to this virus.

(22,176 posts)by any of the 'blue' states to protect all of us, should they push the collapse of the economy excuse, please! I doubt that anyone will work in an unsafe environment anyway. Forcing Americans to work, I wonder how that is going to look? Just wait, I predict that they'll 'order' a sample state and its workers to 'go to work'. I wouldn't be surprised.

(33,643 posts)The point overall ... should be considered.
My first concern being how many stupid and/or mentally unbalanced people there are here ... and how many guns they have. And how gullible many of them are to RW/CT propaganda.
Second concern being how many people live paycheck to paycheck.
Third concern being how fucking incompetent the Trump Administration is.

(33,643 posts)I'm not saying I know what the logical outcome of weighing those effects are going to be, but I don't think they should necessarily logically be totally ignored.
If 1M would likely die of a virus, but 20M would likely die of starvation ... which do you choose?
Note: not real numbers obviously, but that's the general idea of what should be calculated and weighed.

(21,644 posts)then that argument falls pretty flat. there is no doubt that the strain of this is going to lead to untimely deaths.... suicides, for instance... but i consider those persons to also be victims of the virus.
and what about all the everyday deaths not happening, does Navarro want to count those in his equation too? Deaths by auto accident? workplace accidents? SCHOOL SHOOTINGs...... none of those are happening now.
in the end the shutdown saves the most lives, and it isn't even close.

Am I going to die because I can't buy a box of Krispy Kream donuts? Well, yeah, that's quite possible! LOL
Am I in mortal danger because I can't get my hair cut and styled? I dunno, but this bedhead look is beginning to grow on me.
Show me the list, Navarro,. Where does it say who's going to depart this mortal coil because some cash registers aren't singing kaching-kaching to fluff up the economy just in time to make Trump look good before the election?
