Its a week ago that my best friends only childher sonwas admitted to Chicagos VA hospital. Hes on life support/a ventilator because doctors said his lungs kept filling up with fluid (cytokinesis?).
THREE Covid tests had to be taken. The first two came back negative even though he has textbook symptoms. Only today is his diagnosis confirmed.
Hes been given Trumps drughydroxychloroquine. His kidneys became affected and it was discontinued so are steroids being discontinued. The ventilator has been modulated or adjusted to varied settings which I think is a good thing.
His mom who drove him to the hospital is self quarantined and speaks to doctors multiple times a day. All prayers, positive energy are appreciated.
My intent for sharing is to also warn. Not only dont we have enough tests, but the tests arent reliable. If its taken three tests to diagnose him, who knows whether or when reentry is safe.

(32,748 posts)Prayers for your friend's son. I really hope he makes it. If he's otherwise young and healthy then he has a good chance. Your friend (the boy's mother) needs to take care of herself, because she has most likely contracted Covid herself.
Hydroxychloroquine is a lie and a sham to make money off of dying, desperate people. Chump has earned his place in hell and I hope he goes quickly.

(12,051 posts)sure how you would do that, but here's the link to the Chicago trial. Of 113 very sick people, 2 died and the rest have recovered.

I don't know where the son is hospitalized, but if it's close to Chicago, I'd think he would have a chance. Your poor friend. I cry for her.

(5,559 posts)I know flu tests (especially with 'B' strains) have a moderately high false negative rate.
Wouldn't be surprised that there are parallels

(11,611 posts)How awful for your friend to have her only child in such a dire situation. I want to believe that there is some form of comfort for people who are in hospital and unable to have their loved ones with them.
Thanks for posting the testing information. I hope we have better tests soon.

Dont want to g8 e false hope but the article was saying little else seems to work. Maybe its worth a try, especially if you can find that writeup.
