Federalism!
The only reason the pandemic hasnt been the national catastrophe that it could have been is the swift action taken by individual governors, and here is El Caudillo del Mar-a-Lagoor some idiot staffer speaking for himinciting armed resistance against those governors. (And the Save Your 2nd Amendment thing aimed at Virginia is precisely that.) He looked at those idiots in Michigan, whom he noted like him, which is all that matters, and saw a movement with which he could power a re-election campaign.
Now, hes signaling that hes on their side, which is not only stupid from a public health standpoint, it's absolutely dangerous from a political standpoint. There are certain viewpoints that history tells us are perilous when they begin circulating in our politics, and this president* has managed to mix up two of them. He created an extreme devolution of federal authority to the states, and now hes using the power of the presidency to incite resistance to the very situation his nonfeasance created in the first place. In theory, its like there were four sides to the Civil War. Its a recipe for a domestic version of the dissolution of Yugoslavia.

(10,243 posts)When El Caudillo de Mar-a-Lago realizes his re-election chances are circling the toilet, because he's been unable to bullshit and browbeat governors into committing genocide by reopening his big, beautiful economy, he'll really ratchet up the calls for insurrection. And God only knows what this POS will do after he loses the election.

(22,166 posts)Biden is at least 10% points ahead of him. Rump's actions, ranting and raving is the perfect campaign ad for Biden, who doesn't even to say one word. rump is sinking deeper and deeper into the mess he is solely responsible for. He, and all of his enablers will pay one day for their crimes against humanity. Allowing a certain fraction of people to die for the common good of all. Despicable. Every life is worth its weight in gold, who are we to judge the value of a life over others?

(1,690 posts)This will only get worse. When you have, by all indications that have been published, a wild unhinged at least malignant narcissistic( and likely a full blown sociopath) off the rails incompetent person acting out, as the virus effects worsen without sensible intervention, AND the election draws near, get ready. You aint seen nothin yet. His father sent him to military school to try and get a grip on him. Didnt do any good.

(2,212 posts)It's what the RWNJ's have been dreaming about for decades. Trump will try and bring the country down with him if he knows he's going to lose. He's already agitating now.
Americans really need to be prepared for this.

ALONG WITH OTHER TOP MILITARY COMMANDERS........
UNTIL PROVEN DIFFERENTLY, I WOULD NOT EXPECT MUCH OUT OF THEM.........
IN REALITY, AT THIS POINT, THEY ARE THE ONLY ONES WHO HAVE THE WHERE-TO-FORE TO STOP THIS INSANITY.
THE VERY FIRST THING THE MILITARY ADMINISTRATION SHOULD DO IS INSTRUCT THE GUY CARRYING THE FOOTBALL TO, UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES ALLOW THE PRESIDENT TO TAKE POSSESSION OF IT. OF COURSE THEY NEED TO WATCH OUT FOR THE SECRET SERVICE GUARDING HIM........

(10,064 posts)Whenever people think something will bring him down, it never has. Its an absolute scary read of how Trump might pull off reelection. These paragraphs made me shudder, especially the words its going to take an uphill battle for people to want to pick somebody else. Certainly not for Democrats, but on-the-fence Republicans and Independents may be another story.
Anger, anxiety and an onslaught of misinformation online were engines of Trumps political ascent, and this unprecedented, disjointed general election is shaping up to be rife with all three.
This year is going to be so scary, so volatile, so anxiety-inducing, Carnes said, I just think in my heart of hearts that its going to take a really uphill battle for people to want to pick somebody elsean extreme version, perhaps, of what saved post-Sept. 11 George W. Bush in 2004, the strong pull to not change course even during a deeply unpopular war.
