Someone actually just told my husband on Facebook that it's a good thing Obama isn't president right now because he wasn't a billionaire and wouldn't have been able to afford to give everyone $1200. Seriously. How do trumps supporters find their way home at the end of the day?

(70,715 posts)our fellow Vietnam vet KERRY. Why? Because, he said, Shrub had given him VA benefits. There was no future in explaining otherwise, but I asked him when his benefits started, and he said, 2000.
I said, "Well, BUSH didn't get in until 2001, so it was CLINTON who gave them to you!1"

(1,568 posts)I've seen so many people say stuff that seems like parody (or once was parody), but say it with 100% seriousness. I still try to take things with a grain of salt, but it honestly wouldn't surprise me if the person who said was being serious... I wonder if they drive this truck

(24,013 posts)...to decide whether to breathe in first or out first, would die before they could choose. Unfortunately, breathing is a reflex.
Equally unfortunately, copulation, reproduction and voting dont require intelligence, either.

(3,473 posts)Up until now, Trump could never do wrong and he was the best president ever. He would defend him no matter what. So I was a little shocked when he actually admitted that Trump didn't act quickly enough and that is how things got so bad. I brought up small businesses and mentioned that if corporations didn't spend their trillion dollar tax cuts on stock buybacks and now need bailouts there would be more money to give people stimulus and help small businesses. He agreed. He also thinks the people protesting and to open things back up are idiots. Based on past comments and conversations, I don't expect him to vote blue, but it was interesting to hear him admit those things.
subana
(586 posts)the people protesting are idiots!! I think those people have to be encouraged by some republican politicians or organizations. If they really don't like the shelter orders, why don't they simply refuse to obey them? If they did that, it would not provide the same image as demanding to shop as a group.
I may be wrong because I don't live there. I live in Oklahoma & here we have been advised to shelter in place but so far as I know, there is no punishment if you do go outside.
& here's an afterthought, by gathering outside in angry mobs, they're already violating the shelter orders so why don't they just go wherever they want & shut the fuck up? I know I don't care how they feel about the situation & I doubt anyone else wants to hear it either!

I DO know this; there are ZERO Hillary voters who will vote for trump THIS time

(3,473 posts)And I don't think he is a no vote yet, but the election is still a ways away. I'm still somewhat in disbelief that he said anything to criticize Trump. Initially, he parroted the line about Trump stopping air travel from China and that making a difference. He no longer thinks that is the case. I think part of what is making him pay attention and question what is really going on is the havoc this is having on the elderly and nursing homes as this could affect relatives.
oldsoftie
(12,558 posts)A LOT of people, Dem & Republican, did. But trump had the most information available compared to anyone else & should have changed his opinion and actions faster than the rest of us

(35,323 posts)Surveys are pretty consistent in showing that people misremember things.
Surveys of voters done after JFK died and was sort of sanctified showed more people who remembered voting for Kennedy than there were ballots cast. And that doesn't take into account voters who died between 1960 and the date of the survey.
Surveys of voters done when Nixon was in the toilet showed that there must have been widespread ballot fraud, because far fewer said they voted for him than there were ballots cast.
It works with the same with other presidents. When he's popular, the number of people who voted for him increases. When unpopular, the number of people who voted for him decreases. You'd think it would remain the same, but people are good at misremembering things and creating memories.

(1,292 posts)The lowest approval ratings that Gallup has recorded were for Truman during the Korean war at aroun 23% and Bush's in 2008, which was a little higher than that. Without the constant boost from the dumbed down right wing media apparatus, Trump would be below that level.

(1,188 posts)Again our forefathers saw why they believed in not having everyone voting for the office of president. Perhaps we need an IQ test or better yet a morality test..... Back then if own land, you were most likely to be able to read and write. Common Sense was something that was fairly taught among those who owned land. After all, the average American back then was a true scrapper and common sense was lacking among uneducated. Yet, our forefathers saw that they rather have elected leaders elected by common sense individuals, rather than what we see today of the backwoods trumper. I am in an area where a Republican was taught to vote a Republican for any man claiming to be a Republican; regardless what their true character is. As a third generation Democrat, I was taught to vote Democrat for the Republican only are for their pockets and big corporations, Democrats are for the common man.
So I beg to ask.... what of a society should we consider on who or how to vote?
Understand that disinfrachancied the ethic groups in the past and currently do so.
But intelligence should be an elective in order to be able to vote.
Imagine if only college grads were able to vote? Or if just veterans.... or ......
My point is, it's sad that people are FREAKING DUMB TO BELIEVE THAT TRUMP IS PAYING FOR OUR CHECKS.

(15,386 posts)I honestly think he's in the mid-30s right now, but there's about a quarter of the country that no matter what will support republicans. Twenty-five percent is about the lowest George W. ever got. As bad as W was though, he still wasn't any where near as big a narcissist as Trump and at least felt the office of the presidency was due a modicum of respect. Trump has no compunction, and he's seen as more of a fighter, and that inspires some people in a way that W. never could. Even when he's making an ass out of himself, Trump fans will be too stupid to see it as anything more than, "Owning the libs," which is what they really care about.
