New jobs/New Rules for the New Economy

With all the talk about this being a chance to "refashion" or "reimagine" the economy, what kind of changes or new jobs do you foresee in the New Economy?

New job: Contact Tracing. A lot of people could be employed here for an investigative-type of job, and it looks like we might need them for a good while. The pay should be high.

New minimum wage: $20/hr, no exceptions.

Medicare for those who want it.

Eliminate the vast majority of corporate subsidies and credits. Keep subsidies for renewable energy.

New rule: Max CEO pay may only be 100x the lowest-paid worker.

Could go on and on. It's a big job.

We also have to contend with the increases in automation that are developing to a point that they will impact employment in the near future.

I don't accept the ideas that companies are floating about new jobs be created in the wake of the automation revolution. Oh, there will be new jobs that relate to that, but the numbers of them are a problem I foresee. I think of that as PR on their part and I don't get the impression that this Fourth Digital Revolution will be the same as previous industrial revolutions where there was sufficient replacement employment.

However, we do see that a large part of the new employment for the last couple of decades has been in the service sectors, part time and low wage. That's just an path to ending the middle class and increasing poverty for more and more Americans. The 21st-century is not looking good for a bulk of citizens if that continues and we just move deeper into a 3rd-world status, which some contend, has already started.

for this line of though to come in people's minds. I knew it would come after sufficient time to reflect had passed.

I hope that many are truly examining what changes need to take place going forward, there is no return to normal, so we should take this time to plan for how we will go about transforming into a more perfect union..

1. More money for K-12 education and healthcare.
2. To make up for lost time, expand the school year across the country.
3. Add additional grades to High School. Make it K-14. Use those additional years to prepare kids for college or real vocational job training.
4. Make minimum wage $17 per hour.
5. Institute a wealth tax on the super wealthy.
6. Bring back the inheritance tax
7. Use taxation to force employers to share more of their profits with their workers.
8. Re-direct military spending to prepare the country to mitigate the effects of climate change.
