Seriously, though, from the article ramblin dave posted above:

"“Karen” is commonly used in the US to refer to a strident middle-class white woman who talks down to people of colour, usually in serving-staff positions."

Simply, that's it right there.

They are the type of women that have way too much time on their hands essentially like the 1 million moms group. They make retail workers and restaurant workers lives a living hell because they always want to see the manager because they are not satisfied with every little detail. They're all pompous and think everybody should do what they think.

Think of your white conservative woman and that's Karen.

I work with a Karen and boy is she the most disliked person in our office yes she loves Trump

Never satisfied, ALWAYS nit-picks and finds fault.
With everything and everybody.

I watched her demolish 2/3 of a steak dinner and then proclaim "It doesn't taste right". And she expected not to pay for it!

When the Manager came to the table (oh yes, she kicked up a fuss and demanded to see him), I asked her why she didn't say something right away, instead of eating more than 1/2 of it before 'deciding' it wasn't up to her standards.

The Manager gave me a knowing look and told her that because so much of it had been eaten, she'd still have to pay for the dinner. The best he offered her was a free dessert.

And after all that crap, she had the balls to ask for a doggie bag for the uneaten portion of the steak!!

She and her trumpanzee girlfriends go to the salon every week to get manicured, pedicured, waxed, and have their roots touched up. Too much time, too much money, and not a fucking brain cell between them all.

(Whew! Rant over.... thanks for letting me vent, I've been needing to get that off my chest for quite a while! )

Used to do a bit about Karen, who is always an asshole. I have assumed it came from that but I’m not sure. Karen is nosy and rude and makes a big fuss about stupid things.

It’s not really about her being a woman

It's the self important woman who comes to the bakery counter at 7:45 at night at gets irate that she can't have her very special birthday cake, specially decorated by tomorrow. "Get me your manager RIGHT NOW!" (this example is from my housemate who works the bakery at Walmart)

There is a subspecies of Karen called the Entitled Mother. They generally have at least one child who is as entitled as they are. If said child sees something that you have, and they want it, you are expected to immediately surrender the item.
