why the fuck are landlords and mortgage lenders still allowed to demand monthly payments at the risk of leaving millions of people homeless?
If business owners are being given money to keep their businesses afloat with the stipulation that they keep their employees, why not landlords being paid even a fraction of their rental income to keep their renters?
Everyone, and I mean everyone talks about people forced to keep continue paying their debts without any thought given to helping both the landlords and the renters. Why the fuck not?
And there should be a goddammed freeze on banks penalizing over missed mortgages and credit card payments and their gauging.
If people can prove to the government that they have been laid off because of the shut down then they can prove it to the banks and the mortgage companies and their landlords.
This would do more to ameliorate our pending economic collapse and it could keep millions and millions of people from lifelong ruin.

(53,410 posts)There are tons of stories of people helping each other during the Great Depression. My husbands great grandfather owned a little store which he kept open and stocked from his own money in which he allowed families who had lost jobs to buy food. They just kept a running tab which he never enforced. After the Depression he lost the store because he was broke, but he was OK with it because he had helped his community survive.

And, like the SX in WI, when big money snaps its fingers, somehow the courts are available. Police will then remove people & lock them out.🤬

(24,396 posts)especially the longterm unemployed. They were already suffering and worried about their futures. Their chances of finding a job are nil right now, and because they were out of work they cant avail themselves of many of the government programs meant to help people thru this crisis.
