And he tries to inject his little asides from time to time, but he doesn’t want to lose his place, so he comes across as an old man who can’t remember where he put his glasses when they’re on top of his head. How in the everloving FUCK can his minions look at him and take him seriously?

They watch Fox News or listen to right wing radio, where the press conference may not be carried live or if it is, it is spun heavily to show him in the best possible light. Fox and right wing outlets have so poisoned the well, that they think when Trump looks bad (Like normally in every situation) that he is being distorted by the "liberal media". They have been inoculated from facts and evidence.

I have said many times that Trump does not appear to have a grasp on "typical human behavior" It is almost like an alien that has come to earth and is trying to approximate behavior. You are right he doesn't seem to understand how to appear to care or to be solemn, or serious. It comes across as creepy and gross.

It's like none of them have ever been properly socialized and have no idea how normal human beings act or interact. They have no idea how dysfunctional they are or how he is. They all have some sneaking suspicion that they don't quite cut it in society and are angry at the world, which is why Trump has such appeal for them. He is just as awkward and unlikeable as they are, but he is a powerful bully who is taking out his rage on the "winners" in society and his cult members are loving every minute of it.

Even his wealthy hangers-on are losers except for their money. They are all creeps, dorks and deficient in some way. It's like the revenge of the nerds, the hated, the rejected. They have all hitched their wagons to the man who will inflict the most pain on society at large as long as it makes them feel like they have finally achieved their revenge.
