We need to understand that our lives have now been irrevocably changed. Even when we have a vaccine in eighteen months or so, our world will never be the same.
Our economy has crashed we are on the verge of a Depression. Businesses will be closing. We are facing food shortages, the unemployment rate is through the roof and food banks with miles of cars in line are running out of food. The children missed a half year of school. Seniors are going to have graduated without a graduation.
The world has changed and we need to adapt.
We were warned of the pandemic years ago. We were warned.
George W Bush gave a passionate speech in 2005. Yes, GWB.
When he returned to Washington, he called his top homeland security adviser into the Oval Office and gave her the galley of historian John M. Barry's "The Great Influenza," which told the chilling tale of the mysterious plague that "would kill more people than the outbreak of any other disease in human history."

We will have to change our habits if we are to survive. Fact is our world changed eight weeks ago. This is a the wake up call. Answer it or we will not survive. A different world is on the horizon, the outcome is up to us. We need to listen to the warnings. We MUST be prepared. WE MUST BE PREPARED.
Voting matters.

To end on a high note.

(32,066 posts)Ive been feeling lower and more bitter tonight than I have for a long time. We are fast becoming a third world country led by a group of insane whackos. God help us if we dont vote them all out this fall. How I miss Barack Obama.

March 23rd....45,000 exposed, 700 dead
April 23rd ... ~900,000 and ~50,000
50,000 families with an immeasurable loss, a forever hole
50,000 lost, nearing the nation's losses from Vietnam...
Trump needs to lose in the largest EVER blow out...he should not top 25%, yet he will.
Until the dead-enders and their Tangerine Idol are gone, we have not changed enough.

(33,207 posts)I was thinking about this today.
There are so many people I miss. They aren't my friends and family, but, the people I used to see almost daily. The people who sold me gas and made me sandwiches. I miss them and I have no practical way of contacting them.
One was fixing up his truck. One who was working on her latest hair color. One who didn't talk much, but, always smiled as I came in. One who made me breakfast sandwiches every morning for literally 20 years. One who knew exactly how I like my coffee.
Yes, we are sacrificing quite a bit. But, we are sacrificing to protect these very people and I hope they are safe.

(111,344 posts)Experts knew that virus was on the move and headed right for primates, which we are.
In Gates's "Event 201" thought experiment, they correctly identified coronavirus as the bug, but suggested it would come from more common animals, like swine. Absolutely no one saw it coming from an exotic species like the pangolin, although a lot of people suspected it would surface at one of the wet markets that are in every country in Asia.
Yes, we were warned, but I'm not sure what we could have done to prevent it. Those wet markets have existed for thousands of years, they're unlikely to go away. Officials who don't want to look bad will always try to cover up bad news until it's too late. Men making money don't want to stop because of a threat they can't see, feel, smell or taste. About the only thing I can see that might have made a difference is getting the SARS prototype vaccine tested and on the market. Since this bug shares 80% of the genetic code with that one, a vaccine off the shelf might have provided at least partial protection and we'd be seeing fewer deaths worldwide.
And if it hadn't popped up in China, it would have popped up elsewhere. Pangolin habitat is across tropical SE Asia and people do buy and sell them in wet markets there.
