The monster lie that paved Trump's way to the presidency -- and how to defang it

Truth-telling was suddenly for wusses. Bald-faced lying was but a tactic, shrewdly used only by the boldest of men. Good manners, conventional norms, good government, even the very concept of law-abiding citizenship were accused (and found guilty) of turning the country into a humorless, over-regulated chicken coop paralyzed to the brink of suffocation by namby-pamby sensitivities.

Enter the loudmouth hooligan hell-bent on cleaning up this mess. He alone would refuse to gussy up his opinions. He alone would tell it to us straight.

He alone would speak the unvarnished truth.

And there you had it, in all its garish horror. The monster lie that got Trump elected President was that he alone could be trusted to tell the truth!

Expose Trump as the liar he is. Hammer this home over and over. That is how you defeat him. Defang his perceived image as being a truth teller.

... the true Crooked Donald supporter believes him. They would sooner believe him than anyone. They believe there are 30,000 "missing" Hillary emails in which she confessed her crimes, including many murders. They believe the birth certificate Obama produced is "fake" and somewhere there is proof he was born in Africa. The notices in Hawaii newspapers were also wrong. They would sooner believe Obama jumped into a time machine and planted the Hawaii newspaper notices.

Libruls. They don't care that he lies, they don't care if he kills people, they don't care if he crashes the economy. If it hurts smart people they're happy.

When he dissed a war hero in that sneering way, they cheered because he was saying there is nothing heroic, nothing valuable, nothing virtuous. There's only money and greed and conceit, and he tells them it's good to be less moral and compassionate than you could be. You can be nasty and venal and hostile. You can scoff at kindness and call heroes chumps. And Trump tells you that you're smarter because you don't have to respect goodness and only losers are selfless.

Thet get to now look at people risking their lives to help others, and sneer at them. Look at Pence... he won't even take a minimal precaution to protect those in the hospital. He's doing that to show for Trump that sneering at good people is still encouraged.

It is the story of Roger Ailes and Fox News. Scary and brilliantly played.
