“If we take anything away from this pandemic, it’s that health care should not be tied to employment.”

New research from the Economic Policy Institute reveals that the number of Americans who are losing their employer-based health insurance is growing rapidly, with more than 30 million people laid off or furloughed in the last six weeks due to the coronavirus pandemic.

EPI estimates that 12.7 million of the people who have lost their jobs since early March have lost their health insurance.

Is loss of employment a "qualifying event" in terms of getting new coverage?

I'm a store manager of a large store and all of my employees and I were furloughed in march. It is almost $800 a month on ACA for one of my employees to get health insurance for him and his wife when it cost them less than $300 previously. The deductible is so large that there is no way they will ever pay that in a year and it doesn't cover doctor appointments. Don't get me wrong, I support the ACA wholeheartedly but it needs to be expanded.
