In quest for vaccine, US makes 'big bet' on company with unproven technology


"Trump seemed to tune out everything but the talk of time.
"So you're talking over the next few months, you think you could have a vaccine?" he asked.
"Correct. Correct," Bancel said, raising a hand to acknowledge Fauci shifting in his chair across the table. "With phase two," Bancel clarified, just before Fauci interjected, for Trump's benefit: "You won't have a vaccine. You'll have a vaccine to go into testing."

He doesn't care if it's ineffective or dangerous, as long as it's well before the election.

This company is not the only one working on these lines. One advantage would seem to be safety. There is no possibility of a dose inadvertently containing active virus, as opposed to the intended weakened or dead material.

I am pretty much what this thing eats for breakfast before starting in on a busy day....

But I have been reading about people trying this approach since early March. I am not competent to form a decisive opinion on the science involved, but it seems to stand to reason.
