My latest rant about the Florida Unemployment Compensation system.

Alternative title-All Republicans Are Crooked, Lying Motherfuckers.

After struggling to file a claim for over a month, countless unanswered phone calls and messages that were not responded to, calls and emails to every elected representative we have (all Repukes), sending a written application by Priority Mail that has, according to the Post Service, been sitting at the Post Office in Tallahassee since April 10th at 9:15 a.m., my wife was finally able to file a claim online after hours of struggling with their worthless system. That happened late in the evening of April 23rd. She got a $600 direct deposit of one week of the Federal money on April 29th. Today a check came in the mail for one week of state benefits although she requested direct deposit.

Digging into the situation she learned:

The Benefit Week Ending 4/25/20 was her "Waiting Week." We had been told via the media and various elected officials offices there would be no "Waiting Week" and she would receive benefits retroactive to when she lost her job on 3/20/20 because their system did not work and they were overwhelmed.

They are also telling her she has to report a work search for the last two weeks on Tuesday of next week, although DeSantis said the work search was being waived. How the fuck is she supposed to look for work when damn near everyone is shut down and we are not supposed to leave the house?

Of course it's Friday, so we can brood about this all weekend before battle is joined on Monday.

ON EDIT-I have been searching and found Florida is "working on" a tool to allow people to go in and backdate their applications to when they would have applied had the system let them for retroactive benefits. I also found verification the waiver of the work search requirement has been extended.

SECOND EDIT-the waiver of the "Waiting Week" went into effect AFTER my wife lost her job.
