The things that happened that year changed the way that I saw America. As an 11 year old, I realized that we were NOT living in the land of the free. We were NOT living in the home of the brave. I then started paying attention to what politicians say versus what they do. I started reading the Warren report that year. My dad thought it strange that I was so interested in current events. It was a very tumultuous time. Vietnam, Chicago, Abbey Hoffman, etc. Kent State a few years later. I still recall watching the nightly news with the reports of the daily death count from Nam. I thought it surreal, even back then as a kid. The events of that year were as influential as anything could be in shaping my outlook on life. Hence, my "question everything" attitude that still exists today.
