After his anti-lockdown rant, Tesla CEO Elon Musk has come out strong against something else: the concept of physical possessions.
Musk earlier this week railed against lockdown measures put in place to slow the spread of COVID-19, and on Friday, he launched into another bizarre Twitter tirade, declaring with no context that he will be "selling almost all physical possessions" and "will own no house."
Facing some follow-up questions, such as "what?" and "huh?," the Tesla CEO told one user that this supposed sale of virtually everything he owns is not because he needs the cash but because he's "devoting myself to Mars and Earth" and "possession just weigh you down." He did offer one caveat, though: it is extremely important that his house, the former home of Gene Wilder, must not be "torn down or lose any its soul."
At one point in his tweetstorm, Musk wrote that Tesla's stock price is "too high [in my opinion]," after which Tesla shares took a dive.

Tesla's founder Elon Musk wiped $14bn off the carmaker's value after tweeting that its share price was too high.
The tweet also knocked $3bn off Mr Musk's own stake in Tesla as investors promptly bailed out of the company.
"Tesla stock price too high imo," he said, one of several tweets that included a vow to sell his possessions.
In other tweets, he said his girlfriend was mad at him, while another simply read: "Rage, rage against the dying of the light of consciousness."
In 2018, a tweet about Tesla's future on the New York stock market led to regulators fining him $20m and agreeing to have all further posts on the platform pre-screened by lawyers.

(10,903 posts)This is not the first time something like this has happened with Elon.
There's definitely an an unstable/uncontrolled side to him. I hope he figures it out.

(12,712 posts)The logistics of getting to Mars AND surviving there for any period of time are mind boggling and extremely complex.
There are so many problems with the Martian environment that need to be reckoned with, and no, that movie The Martian was way off base. For instance, not only is the "soil" fine and clingy, it is highly toxic. It would easily contaminate things and muck up works.
I could go on, but for now, it looks to me like this mission to mars idea is a visionary fantasy of sorts, that is, if there are plans to colonize it. That's not even considering getting there, the time frame involved, etc.

(12,712 posts)Yup.
Here is a rather imposing list of problems a mission to Mars faces. There are some that aren't covered, but I will leave it at that.

(12,712 posts)That I think of the Mars idea as more of a pipe dream. It's not going to be like the movie, The Martian.
This list shows SOME of the challenges. Others have to do with the Biosphere 2 experiment failures, etc. There are many factors involved and it is far more complex than we might imagine. I think too much sci-fi gave me an optimistic fantasy whereas the reality of it is quite formidable. Getting there and living there both present a host of issues.
