Coronavirus gets a promising drug. MAGA world isn't buying it.

Over three weeks ago, hydroxychloroquine was all the rage in MAGA world, despite flawed and scattered evidence about whether the drug could help cure coronavirus. Now there is another drug, remdesivir, with positive early scientific data.

Much of MAGA world wants little to do with it.

t first, it may seem like a head-scratching response. President Donald Trump’s base has been quick to trumpet any potential solutions to the coronavirus pandemic — especially those Trump himself promotes — regardless of the red flags from medical experts. But with remdesivir, it’s the Trump-boosting pundits who are raising the red flags, even as the president expresses optimism.

ndeed, the same segment of the right that claimed scientists and the media were deliberately downplaying hydroxychloroquine in order to hurt Trump’s standing are now the ones downplaying remdesivir. On Fox News, Laura Ingraham suggested that remdesivir, as a newer drug being produced by the pharmaceutical company Gilead Sciences, could be unsafe and expensive. Those who initially helped raise the profile of hydroxychloroquine raised doubts about the remdesivir studies.

The unexpected reaction appears to stem from the differences in how the two drugs came into the public spotlight. Hydroxychloroquine bubbled up through the MAGA grassroots — little-known investors promoted it online, got on Fox News and suddenly the president was talking about it from the White House. Remdesivir’s progress came through a government-funded trial that had the blessing of Dr. Anthony Fauci, the bête noire of Trump hardliners who blame the government’s top infectious disease expert for undermining the president and causing unnecessary economic damage with his social-distancing guidelines.

HUGE! As We Predicted — Dr. Fauci Praises New Tests on Expensive Gilead Drug Remdesivir but Sneered at Less Expensive and More Effective Hydroxychloroquine!

Did you hear Fauxci refer to Gilead’s drug as ‘standard of care’? After one test with mediocre results??
Meanwhile, Dr David Brownstein and others at wellness clinics are using IV-C, IV-ozone and other relatively inexpensive natural approaches with ZERO hospitalizations.
And recall Fauxci said lots of study would be needed for hydroxychloroquine. The a-holes sabotage inexpensive treatment to push us towards economic depression and a mandatory vaxx

There’s a huge censorship, omission, smear, scare effort directed at HCQ combination therapy via search engines, social media and corporate fake news. Remdesidumb is slipped in with cheerleading scripts but never scientifically challenged, discussed. Viewers are programmed to accept the script that it’s the inevitable treatment.
And don’t even think of mentioning UV light therapy.

It makes me wonder if they’d be environmentalists if Al Gore had promoted increased CO2 emissions instead.

Pick a side, then distort everything to help support “your team”.

Anecdotal evidence versus real trials...

Not sure what to say.

People can still be in their corners and staunchly against each other but can we just get to a point of agreeing on facts. Not clinging to ideas that are unproven because it came from your party.

This is nuts. Just imagine if during the early days of HIV/AIDS research, people were choosing to believe what medicine they should take based on party affiliation.

This is so over the top loony. People protesting against wearing masks, out of party affiliation, not because they have been presented with evidence that tells them they should not.

Questioning the # of dead Americans. No respect to the lost lives and their loved ones left behind or the people on the front lines battling to save each and every life.

Some days I just can't wrap my head around some of this. Is this performance art? I was going to ask, would Trump supporters really reject Remdesivir if they or a loved one had Covid 19 because it did not come from Trump? And yes they would.

These same people wanted to get rid of "Obamacare", but keep their healthcare. Sigh,
