Crowds of people gathered at the National Mall in D.C. on Saturday to watch a Blue Angels and Thunderbirds flyover, with at least some at the scene appearing to ignore social distancing rules.
Photos, many of which were posted on social media, showed large crowds standing on the grass as they watched the event.
NBC News correspondent Leigh Ann Caldwell, who covered the flyover, tweeted that many people were not wearing masks. "On the national mall covering the Blue angels and Thunderbird flyover and there are SOOO many people here. Not wearing masks. Not social distancing," she said.
U.S. Park Police could not immediately be reached for comment Saturday.

I mean, what the hell? How many tax dollars are being spent on this absurd display that not only wastes money but evidently encourages some people to take risks with their health and others?
Is this supposed to show how tough we are?
And yeah, I've heard that this is to "support for our health care workers," but I don't get the connection. How about we spend the money on protective gear and tests and such?
How about we encourage people to continue to social distance as a way of showing our support for the people who have to deal with the sick and the dying?
