An example of Trump-speak that infuriates me.

I saw some clip of him this morning at the Lincoln Memorial (I think). I was half asleep, so I don't remember the exact context, I can't even remember exactly what he was referring to. But as an example, he said something along the lines of:

The press does not treat me fairly. 94%, maybe even 95% don't treat me well.

I can't really remember if he was talking about the press or not...but what pisses me off is this part of the statement "94%, maybe even 95%".

If you pay attention, he makes statements like this ALL THE TIME, and his supporters slurp it up like it is gravy.

Think about it...when normal people make statements like this, they might say something like "Well, I would guess that maybe 50% to 75% of the people....".

Not Trump though. That fucker has it honed right in.... "94%, maybe even 95%".

And this is a sure sign that he has no fucking idea what he is saying, no idea what his point is, is completely bullshitting about something, is talking just for the sake of talking, is just generating random words.

I must again quote one of my favorite bands, Ween.

All that you speak is bullshit
And all the people you know
Maybe some people like to eat it
But I think you're a dick

The Wharton School is the very prestigious graduate program at Penn. He got an undergraduate degree in Econ (pshhh) at Penn and even though it was affiliated with Wharton, he did not get an MBA AT Wharton. Big difference.

Also, when he attended, you didn't need to be a top student to get in as you do now. I applied (because my Dad went there) and was accepted with a 3.2 GPA from high school about six years after he did. Went to Cal instead.

treats you unfairly 95% of the time." He never gets called on what percentage of those anecdotes? The press just lets most of those go. He'll just say he can't give them the name. It's funny though, because a lot of the big players do not call him sir on the phone or in private. I can't prove it, but some guys like that just would not! Not if he needs them and they know it.

He said something along the lines of he’s received three or four calls from people crediting hydroxychloroquine with saving their lives. Fucking really? Random people just dialing in to the oval to personally thank the president. Just pick up the phone, yeah it’s Joe Magablowski, wanna thank President Trump for his recommendation on hydroxychloroquine. Ok sir, we’ll put you right through.

in stark terms of his own ego needs: what feeds it versus anything that denies him the gratification of praise. A normal person would say something like, "I know not everyone agrees with me on (this or that)" or "I've received some criticism in the press, but..."

In an environment like that, it's no wonder even highly principled people (I can only think of two: Dr. Fauci and Chris Wray) become paralyzed in fear and afraid to express themselves, because Trump is hyper attuned to the slightest critique.

that's to make the calculation sound more believable, so the dipshits listening to him think, "Wow, he's got it down to the exact percentage point, so he must have analyzed this statistically so it has to be true!"

10. In Engineering, we call that concept "Significant Digits"
Mon May 4, 2020, 04:26 PM

The idea is that the degree of "accuracy" of your answer implies the amount of certainty for that answer.

For instance, if I say it is 350 miles from Miami to Jacksonville, that communicates a different level of confidence than if I said 346.7 miles. The latter is so specific that it implies I made a special measurement to come to that figure.

In Engineering, this is an absolute no-no and we are taught to avoid such implied accuracy beyond what our math can prove.

However, if you are a conman, the inverse is true. Using more specific numbers lets you imply a legitimacy that simply does not exist.

Which might be okay in an honest person. His distinction between 94% and 95% would be hilarious if it wasn't just more of his typical make it up as he goes.

1% of bullshit is still bullshit.

Another general pet peeve I have is when High School and College coaches urge their student athletes to give "110%" which is impossible unless the play through their mortality @ 110% and continue to make some contribution with their lifeless body (like falling in front of an offensive runner?) Before the ref whistles the play and player dead.

Student athletes should be aware that the maximum output is in fact 100%

Not by violence, because I find that distasteful and it would make him a martyr.

But I hope every day to see him have a stroke so severe that it pops his eyes from his skull.

If that makes me part of his fictional 95%, then I'm ok with that.

The man is so incoherent and empty the only message is Donald Trump. I have spoken to several American Sign Language interpreters who generally tell me the man is so incoherent they cannot follow him. I have a tendency to watch interpreters and never seen him with an ASL interpreters.
