Robin Vaughn, a city councilwoman for Trenton, New Jersey called the citys first openly gay mayor, Reed Gusciora, a pedophile, a woman and a b*tch *ss and also attacked another city council member during a 10-minute rant she delivered while on a Saturday conference call to discuss the citys coronavirus planning.
Vaughns rant started when the mayor asked her to name one of the local do-nothing local organizations run by [the mayors] friends that Vaughn had publicly criticized on social media, according to The Trentonian.
Soon after, she called the mayor a pedophile, and said, The only thing [Gusciora] brought into City Hall is a bunch of young boys, and theyre sitting up there in the mayors suite.
When fellow City Councilman Joe Harrison tried to intervene, he called Vaugh a crazy person, and she replied, Why dont you go find your father, Joe Harrison? Go ask your whore-*ss mom who your father is. Everybody in this city knows who my father is, motherf*cker, in a reference to Harrisons estranged father. Harrison responded, Be careful what you say, ugly.
Although he later clarified that he meant Vaughns speech was ugly, she told Harrison that he could continue to suck Reed Guscioras d*ck all you want to, motherf*cker.

This is the same BIGOT who defended an anti-Semitic slur, only to "apologize" for it later. She should be FIRED or RECALLED or whatever it is!

(65,042 posts)There are even people with matching politics that would find that a bridge too far!
I know some conservatives that are quite straight laced. I can't imagine those folks thinking this behavior is acceptable.
(BTW: I know them. I'd never hang out with them.)

I find it astounding that, at a loss for an insult, she states that the Mayor and his associates are "women".

(65,042 posts)A woman uses "woman" as an insult. Odd.
And, I'm quite surprised that sentiment is not from a conservative.
But after reading more of the exchange, that whole thing was a clusterfuck!
There's something under the surface here!

(62,444 posts)President Obama wins with 61% of the vote.
Marriage equality is defeated with 52% of the vote.
What that means is that there was a sizeable chunk of California voters, somewhere around 9ish percent of California voters, who voted for Obama and against marriage equality.
In the immediate aftermath of that vote, a number of DUers were banned for expressing their belief about where those votes came from.
The Washington Post puts it this way:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2013/03/26/how-proposition-8-passed-in-california-and-why-it-wouldnt-today/
The discrepancy? African American voters, who were overwhelmingly in favor of banning same sex marriage (70 percent supported Proposition 8) even as they supported Obama even more heavily (94 percent). And, to a lesser degree, Hispanic voters followed that same trend -- backing Prop. 8 by a 53 percent to 47 percent margin while giving President Obama 74 percent.
The explanation? Many largely black churches supported Prop. 8 while Hispanics, a heavily Catholic community, were more naturally inclined to side with their faith -- and against gay marriage.

(65,042 posts)Good reminder.
The move toward marriage equality was indeed, slow to gain momentum in many minority communities.

The Nubian News, a Trenton-based African American newspaper, is hosting a rally for men to show their support of embattled Councilwoman Robin Vaughn.
The rally, set for 11 AM Thursday at the Nubian News office, comes as the states most powerful Democrats are calling on Vaughn to resign for making homophobic statements on a weekend conference call.

(82,849 posts)Has anyone asked Vaughn if she'd like to "clarify" any of her remarks, or is that only for Harrison?
Maybe no more weekend phone conferences? I think that might be cutting into Robin Vaughn's drinking time.
