I swear, it hurts even to type in these numbers. Keep thinking these cold impersonal numbers are actually warm, breathing, struggling human beings. Fellow Americans. Brothers and sisters and cousins and friends of every color. All of whom are suffering to one degree or other. Even the "lucky ones" aren't all that lucky anymore, except for being "above the dirt" as opposed to being "underneath the dirt." And soon enough, I fear, every one of us will be able to say we know someone who was taken away from us by the virus.
