Never forget when you hear the words promoting "A strong Military" what the speaker actually means

is...

"I am for expanding the largest Government jobs program in the history of the world".

I find it incredibly curious that when the Shrub took office, the budget for the Defense Department in the US was around $300 billion.

for 2012 it is over 900 Billion

I put up a thread the other day that got exactly ONE response relating to this subject;

The reason this pisses me off so much is that Republicans ALWAYS say the Government 'CAN'T' produce jobs, yet the defense budget (yeah...an oxymoron if there ever was one) employs HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of people in this country, both directly and indirectly, a large percentage of them well paying and often UNION jobs.

There is always energy to complain that a Chicago area teacher makes (whatever it is) thousands per year, but no one...and I mean NO ONE EVER complains about how much the Union Shipwrights at Electric Boat in Connecticut or Pipefitters, Millwrights, Steamfitters, etc. at the Newport News Shipyard (where our Aircraft Carriers are built) are making. And I guarantee you that all those Union jobs have great benefits, fantastic healthcare and a decent retirement program.

No one ever complains that the head of a company that makes NO PRODUCTS WHATSOEVER that the average American will ever buy without a DOD purchase order makes $16 million a year. You'll never hear Limbaugh or Hannity complain about that.

Why don't the Republicans just come out and say they don't want ANY money spent by the US government to go to anything except the military? Why don't they just go ahead and admit that the Pentagon is nothing but a giant jobs program (which it obviously is) and that they want to spend $2 trillion a year on it and nothing on anything else?

Why don't they just come out and tell us that they have no intention of EVER cutting back on the military budget of the US no matter what?

Because if you're a Democrat and you DARE to suggest that spending over TWO BILLION DOLLARS EVERY 24 HOURS is a bit much, you are labeled as soft or somehow against the troops!

Meanwhile, children go hungry and undereducated in this country, but the workers and the CEO's of General Dynamics, Rockwell and the others carry on with their wonderful salaries, all paid by your tax dollars.

That Romney wants to spend a lot to stimulate the economy while pretending that he isn't. The worst case is that he wants more war. It could be both.
It is too bad that they are so against helping people in this country that they couldn't it at least spend it on infastructure.
For some reason, I am reminded of the Soviet Union.

There are really very few ways to stimulate the economy. One sure way is to throw huge amounts of money at it. One way is to make money as cheap a hell and promote housing loans (that's what W did after 9/11/01) and another way is to throw huge amounts at defense contractors.

Remember the idea of the "600 ship navy"?

Reagan got the Treasury to sell a SHITLOAD of 30 year Treasuries and they used that money to expand the military.

Bush the Lesser did the same.

Romney will do it again.

It's a bandaid on a massive wound.

I had a father who preached this at the breakfast table when I was just a child.

Not only that, but I remember him saying that instead of dropping bombs, we should be dropping refrigerators. That way we would be making friends. We would be doing something productive. As it stands, we were just employing people to do counterproductive things that angered the world.

Later, after getting a degree in engineering, I began to see the astoundingly crazy military research. It's absolutely crazy what we do in the name of jobs. Wasn't staring at goats one of them?
