Oh, ew: Psychiatrist Justin Frank: Trump is "aroused" by conflict with female reporters

Author of "Trump on the Couch" on Trump's "love of obedient women" and the unconscious fantasies that drive him

As we all ought to know by now, Donald Trump is an authoritarian and a would-be mad king. The coronavirus pandemic has only encouraged his worst impulses and behavior. There is no bottom to Trump's addiction to cruelty, mayhem, lying and overall evil.

Donald Trump continues to threaten violence against Democrats, journalists and anyone else he believes is plotting against him. Trump repeatedly calls reporters, journalists, Democrats, members of the Obama administration and other perceived enemies "human scum" who will "get what is coming to them."

(Interview begins)

In a recent New York Post interview, Donald Trump talked about his longing for "1950s housewives" and the "good old days." He also revealed that he loves fighting with the female reporters during his coronavirus briefings, and of course that he loves the TV ratings more than anything else. As a psychotherapist, what did you see in that interview?

Trump loves sparring with the reporters who are women. For Trump, being combative with them is like a type of aggressive fighting and jousting. It is very sexual for Trump on an unconscious level. He is aroused by the female reporters who stand up to him. It is a great turn-on for Trump. Conflict in general is a turn-on and arousing for Trump, but conflict with a woman is even more exciting.

Trump has a fantasy of dominating these women. I also think that Donald Trump also has a deep desire, perhaps passive or latent, to be dominated by a confident strong woman. Donald Trump has a very complicated relationship with women where he likes to fight with them but also wants them to be submissive to him.

This is a long interview and I've really had to cut it, but it's a really interesting, albeit icky in parts read.

I see him seething that this [fill in the misogynist slur] isn't just floating him softballs like those nice OAN girls. That he's livid at being questioned by someone he thinks has no right to question him.

So he snaps at them or abruptly leaves.

But of course he claims he "loves fighting with the female reporters." That frames the confrontations as his choice, puts him in complete control of the situation, where in reality, in every other venue, he makes damn certain he's never in that position.

or he's just a psychopath.

Dark triad

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_triad#Psychopathy

As a mating strategy[edit]
Studies have suggested that on average, those who exhibit the dark triad of personality traits have an accelerated mating strategy, reporting more sex partners, more favorable attitudes towards casual sex,[81] lowered standards in their short-term mates,[82] a tendency to steal or poach mates from others,[83] more risk-taking in the form of substance abuse,[34] a tendency to prefer immediate but smaller amounts of money over delayed but larger amounts of money,[84] limited self-control and greater incidence of ADHD symptoms[33] and a pragmatic and game-playing romance style.[85] These traits have been identified as part of a fast life strategy that appears to be enacted by an exploitative, opportunistic, and protean approach to life in general[86] and at work.[76]

The evidence is mixed regarding the exact link between the dark triad and reproductive success. For example, there is a lack of empirical evidence for reproductive success in the case of psychopathy.[13] Additionally, these traits are not universally short-term-oriented[33] nor are they all impulsive.[16] Furthermore, much of the research reported pertaining to the dark triad cited in the above paragraph is based on statistical procedures that assume the dark triad are a single construct, in spite of genetic[23] and meta-analytic evidence to the contrary.[21]

Dark tetrad[edit]
Several researchers have suggested expanding the dark triad to contain a fourth dark trait. Everyday sadism, defined as the enjoyment of cruelty, is the most common addition.[98] While sadism is highly correlated with the dark triad, researchers have shown that sadism predicts anti-social behavior beyond the dark triad.[38][99] Sadism shares common characteristics with psychopathy and antisocial behavior (lack of empathy, readiness for emotional involvement, inflicting suffering), although Reidy et al. (2011)[100] showed that sadism distinctively predicted unprovoked aggression separate from psychopathy.[101]

Furthermore, sadism predicted delinquent behavior separately from the other dark triad traits when evaluating high school students.[101]

Harmful behavior against living creatures, brutal and destructive amoral dispositions, and criminal recidivism were additionally more prominently predicted by sadism than psychopathic traits.[101]

Studies on how sadists gain pleasure from cruelty to subjects were applied towards testing people who possessed dark triad traits. Results showed that only people exhibiting traits of sadism derived a sense of pleasure from acts of cruelty, concluding that sadism encompasses distinctly cruel traits not covered by the rest of the dark triad, therefore deserving of its position within the dark tetrad.[102]
