I'm wondering if this Mid-East violence is the GOP's October Surprise?

(I know, it's not October yet.)

What contacts does Romney (and John Bolton and Dick Cheney and the other neo-cons) have in the Mid-East?

It wouldn't be unprecedented - the Reagan campaign negotiated with the Iranians and got them to refuse to release the hostages until after the election was over and Reagan defeated Carter.

Nixon's campaign worked to sink peace talks in Vietnam in 1968 to sink LBJ.

The right wing is capable of anything. Absolutely anything. They want power enough that they would commit treason.

Or perhaps Bibi's little gift.
A whole noisome club of characters seem to want war in the Middle East - each with their own different purpose.
But I am betting on treason from the right wing.

It would have been easy to slip the guy who made the film a few bucks through his family in Egypt, get the film made, dub it and distribute it in sensitive places. A surefire plan -- and no fingerprints.

It wouldn't take coordination beyond the capacity of a Merv Adelson.

The strange appearance of Netanyahu in the US just at the right moment supports this theory, but overall it is a dubious theory that is worth considering. More evidence one way or another may turn up as we move along. This is the internet age. It's hard to hide secrets like those the Reagan administration hid.

since Mittwitt was doing so poorly.

Take Cheney's comments on Obama's lack of attendance on Security meetings
also the to do about Obama not meeting up with Netanyahoo
and now this movie in the making since 2011? BUT only put on You Tube in Arabic but it was made by Christian evangelicals from California.

Give me a break.

My old job was fraud investigation and I loved finding all the pieces to the puzzle.

Hopefully there will be someone out there in the FBI and the media who will do this.

I think it will all lead back to the extreme RWrs.

Time will tell.

for the first time in 11 years on 9-11 the media was actually talking about how the W Administration willfully ignored warnings of 9/11. Less than 24 hours later the embassy attacks occur changing news coverage....I guess they couldn't release a Bin Laden tape this time.

Al Nas - the network that played the tape is Saudi owned, I don't know if that means anything, but it is worth noting.

I've been thinking a lot about this. The RW has gone off the deep end blaming the President. Of course the are very illusive in saying why it's the President's fault, it just is.

It gets a bit annoying how often people around here like to insist that only five percent of the planet's population are capable of doing anything of their own accord...

Gimme a fucking break. First of all they aren't that fucking clever. Second this, to me, sounds no less crazy than Limbaugh saying Al-Queada turned Bin Laden over to the Obama administration so they could kill him, making Obama look good and win re-election so Obama could turn the US over to the Muslims.

The film has been online for a while but was just translated to Arabic a few days before 9/11. A coincicence? Maybe, but sounds quite Rovian to me. Hope someone is following the money trail on this film. I think whoever is behind it thought it would be good for a two or three day story and a Mitt bounce but it's become a major international incident that's going to require a cool head to handle. Mitt's reckless outburst that accused the president of sympathizing with anti-american ambassador killers shows his is not the cool head needed.

It all just seems so perfect:

A convicted felon makes a vile, defamatory film about the Prophet Mohammed on the sneak with the actors blythely unaware that what they are actually doing is making a mockery of one of the world's great religions. Said convicted felon then translates the thing into Arabic.

A right wing nutjob of a preacher in Florida who has already set off fatal riots for planning to burn the Koran on 9/11 starts promoting the hell out of this film

An Islamist talk show host in Egypt--apparently the Egyptian version of Glenn Beck--shows the trailer and starts talking the thing up. As predictable as sunrise mobs gather outside the U.S. embassy.

Israeli Prime Minister renews his call for the U.S. to join him in military action against Iran. Obama give Prime Minister Netanyahu the cold shoulder.

Dick Cheney raises his ugly head to criticize Obama for being a wimp.

An Egyptian mob gathers outside the U.S. Embassy in Cairo. Desperate Embassy staff say that the U.S. shares their outrage. Mitt Romney jumps in with both feet accusing the Obama administration of sympathising with the mob. Meanwhile the Al Queda wannabees in Libya have attacked our consulate and killed the ambassador.

Romney does his little smiley face press conference.

Gas prices in the U.S. start to rise as tensions flair in t he Mideast.

Mission accomplished?

Or is this just what happens when there are groups of people of varied faiths and motives who WANT to see blood flow in the Middle East and elsewhere and of course political and religious leaders cynical enough and evil enough to stoke the flames of outrage and hatred.

But then after years of posting on Above Top Secret, I can't say conspiracy theories are an easy sell to me.

Mr. Bibbles has been whining for about a year now, about how the Obama administration won't help him make a pile of dead Iranians and Israeli. Nothing has changed on that score.

American politicians are going to exploit the situation any way they can. It's possible that they will dip their fingers in to stir shit more, now that it's already begun. But I don't think they would have started it.

...you realize that this is the gang who couldn't shoot straight.

It's hard to imagine that they could have pulled this off. My feeling is that this is just a giant mess fueled by cynical religious and political leaders here and in the mid-east.

Of course McCain, Lindsay Graham, and Lieberman had contacts with Gaddafi before the uprising so they likely still know somebody there. It's not inconceivable that some neocons and/or Netanyahu/Adelson wanted to make trouble for Obama and perhaps even financed an operation that--intentionally or not--lit the fuse. Everybody knows how easily mobs form and fly out of control in the region.
