(38,187 posts)This is the closest to any kind of hope for justice a Democrat from NC will ever get. I'm still going to enjoy watching the FBI hassle him for a while until he gets away with it. I hope he at least loses more money than he gained by his insider trading. I hope at least that much happens. Still, just to see the FBI go after him at all is more than I thought I would ever get to see. I want to see them go after as many NC Republicans, especially, as possible. It would be the only way NC Republicans ever have to answer for their corruption. Nobody in this state will do anything to them, see? So, we don't stand a chance of seeing anything done to them unless the feds go after them. So, it'll be fun while it lasts at least.
I just woke up. This is the first story I saw. I wanna watch him squirm, but what I really wish I could see is him and more Republicans in an orange jumpsuit and handcuffs.

(48,955 posts)trumpco is less likely to be able to intimidate the Dem (minority) chair of the Senate Intell committee, which is contradicting the new 'Obama Gate' bullsh&t, than it is to flip Burr.
Burr's greed/malfeasance (while protecting trump's early false/public endangaring proclamations of the dangers of the spreading covid 19) left him vulnerable to threats of legal actions (because - attrocious/illegal (?) behavior) - aka as old Russian style "Kompromat."
If Burr flips on this position that the earlier reports regarding affirmation that Russia DID interfere in the 2016 election, we need to find a verb to create and use regularly to 'brand' the Trump move of threat of use of US govt to bring great harm, as an effort to coerce an action intended to help his reelection/cement his power. Something like: Trump has just Ukrained Sen Burr."
Don'T get me wrong - Burr is spot on wrong/awful in his actions on this and deserves to stand accountable. I just hear echoes of earlier actions in this move, that makes me think there is a more important story line playing out - that further lays bare the total abuse of power from the WH and the Barr DOJ, and that needs to amplified.

(31,261 posts)been pretty evenhanded to be led by a repugh. It't latest action was to release a report that Trump couldn't have been happy with.
I can promise you that if Burr resigns, he will be replaced with a knuckle-dragging Trump sycophant who will stick fingers in ears not to hear any negative facts about Trump.

(22,803 posts)I'd love nothing more than to see "do nothing Burr" suffer from his hubris. He's consistently been one of the Absolute WORST congressional representatives in North Carolina history.

(38,187 posts)Sweet! I do love the smell of a NC Republican being served a search warrant in the morning.
What a great start to the day.
I hope justice actually get served. It never does down here in NC. Let's hope something gets done to some of these corrupt NC Republican fuckers from NC at the federal level. I hope it lasts beyond the election and we get to see him in handcuffs and an orange jumpsuit and on his way to the pokey.
It would be a fitting justice to see most of the Republican Party in handcuffs and ORANGE jumpsuits.

(10,303 posts)... NC might have a special election this November for Mr. Burr's seat. In addition to Thom Tillis's seat. This could help Democrats regain the US Senate.
I am definitely not a fan of Mr. Burr. When he was in the US House, I reached out to his office for help. Yes, I lived in his district. I got no help at all, save a "form letter" and email as reply. A relative in a neighbouring district reached out to their Congressional Representative (the late Howard Coble) and their office was all over my case in no time. At that time I didn't live in Howard Cobles district. Redistricting meant we did end up in his district eventually.
A bit long winded I know but here's my point - our elected leaders are here to work for us. When they forget this and think it's about them, then sooner or later they will have their posterior handed to them. A good team behind the elected representative and an actual warm and functioning "heart" can go a long way to ensure job security as an elected representative no matter what party.

(38,187 posts)and our government as it is right now. Right now, our courts and our government, in general, are full of Trump people in charge of everything. If they make any decisions right now, it will go in his favor. That is how I was looking at it.
The way they have it in NC now though, as I understand it goes like this:
Gov. Cooper would have to pick a Republican to replace him and it has to be chosen from a list made by the NC Republican Party. Remember when the Tea Party made a bunch of special laws just for Cooper when he defeated McCrory? That is one of the laws they made. That person would serve until 2022.

(38,187 posts)I'm so sick of NC Republicans just running roughshod over everyone. I'm sick of all Republicans doing it, everywhere, but here in NC, they have gotten away with FAR too much for FAR too long. To see him gone would be awesome beyond words. To see him in an orange jumpsuit would be fitting.
Did you know: They made a law that said Republicans would chair every election board during even years and Democrats would chair in odd years. NC does not have elections in odd years. That's the kind of nonsense from Republicans we have had to put up with from this bunch of corrupt, extremist Republicans in NC.
To see any Republican from NC go down? Somewhere an angel got their wings.
